World's Pana ma Exposition. We take pleasure in publishing the following letter from the Gov erner of Lousiana addressed to the Cochran Banking Co., in regard to the eminent claims of New Orleans as the logical point for holding the Worlds Panama Exposition. This letter speaks for itself. Gentleman: Referring to the letter to you from the New Orleans Clear ing House Assodation, asking your assistance in having New Orleans designated as the logical point for holding the World’s Panama Expo sition, I, too, wish to ask for your kind co-operation in this matter A Over si-xty million of people live within a radius of 1000 miles from New Orleans, while in the same ra dius of San Francieo there are only six million people. The average railroad fare to New Orleans for over 75 per cent of the people of this country to visit an exposition here will be $12.50ns against 837.50 to San Francieo. It is proposed, because of the im portance oj 11 Panama Canal to Central and South American repub lics, to extend special invitations to those Governments to participate, and to the people of those nations to visit this exposition. For them New Orleans is the only logical point. Even if an exposition were held in San Francieo, these people would pass through New Orleans to GOODS 3 ALE Iced Tea Tumblers, each 8 cts Heavy Goblets, each 5 cts Glass Pitchers.. 19 A 23 cts Big Pitchers 48 cts Footed Tee Creams 8 cts Flat Dishes Decorated ID cts Deep Dishes Decorated 10 cts Covered Dishes 33 cts Covered Dishes Decorated. _ \4B cts Cups and Saucers, China pr_l«S-2 Cups and Saucers decorated .HlVts Cups and Saucers plain pair. 5 cts Plates, white each 5 ctp Plates decorated each I (V'cts Bowls and Pitchers 88 cts Bowls and Pitchers decorated 81.48 Bowls only, 48 cts Chambers ; 23 cts Dish Pans 10 A 15 cts Milk Buckets 10 A 15 cts Enameled Dish Pans ...33 cts Enameled Milk Pans 10 cts Towels 14x28 inches._ 4 cts Towels 18x39 inches._ 8 cts Big Sun Hats Your Choice for Only 10 Cents. The people of your state could come to an exposition in New Or leans in much less time, and at much less expense, than they could go to San Francieo, and here is the point, which you, as bankers, will see the force of: If this exposition is held in New Orleans, the millions of dollars which will be expended in the con struction and maintenance of the great enterprise, and the millions of dollars which will be here ex pended by the hundreds of thou sands of people from all parts of the world, will unquestionably re main in the Mississippi Valley ai d in the South and, during its idle period, this immense amount of capital will find its way back to the banks of the North and East. If this exposition goes to Ban Francieo, these millions of dollars will stay on the Pacific Coast, and not. one state East of the Rocky Mountains will receive any benefit therefrom. Representative Wm. W. Howard of your State is a member of the House of Foreign Affiars which will settle this important matter on May 2b, and I beg of you to communi cate with him, either by wire or letter, in behalf of New Orleans and the South.
