The Le cso i She Learned.
A fair western co-ea ai d one of the
mule seniors fell violently in love and
neglevtisl their studies shamefully,
belli were expelled. The fair co-ed
therupon wrote this interesting reply
to the faculty:
Gentlemen—You have expelled me for
neglecting my studies, yet 1 have learned
nt your Institution more tljan you will
ever know. I have learned the meaning
of love. What Is the use of studying bot
any if T am not allowed to gather roses?
Why should I devote myself to astron
omy If. I may not. look at the stars?
What does It profit me to spend years on
mathematics and neglect my own figure?
You have expelled my fiance also. Do
you think he Is unhappy? We were mar

Sand Swept Asia.
In the nriil lands of eeutral Asia the
sir is reported as often laden with
fine detritus, which drifts like snow
around conspicuous objects and tends
to bury them in a dust drift. Even
when there is no apparent wind the
air is described as thick with tine dust,
and a yellow sediment covers every
thing. In Khotau this dust sometimes
so obscures the sun that nt midday
one cannot see to read line print with
out a lamp.
It Really Happens.
The Woman—Here’s a wonderful
thing. I’ve Just been reading of a
man who reached the age of forty
without learning how to read or write.
He met a woman, and for ber sake
he made a: scholhr of himself in two
years. The Man—That's nothing. I
‘know a man who w:ra ;j) ’grpfound
scholar nt forty. Then he met a wo
man and*for her sake made a fool of
himself in two days.—Cleveland head

At the men’s service in a lorkshire
parish the vicar tried to convey the
lesson that the truest heroes and hero
ines are those who do noble deeds in
the secret corner of the home, where
none can see or applaud.
“Few of you seem to think,” he con
cluded. “that your wives staying at
home uncomplainingly to mind the
children and prepare the meals’ are
.heroines, and yet their touching devo
tion to duty proves them to be so.”
It certainly hadn't struck one old
farmer in this way before, and as. soon
as he got home, lie promptly tifld his
wife that the vicar had called her a
heroine. •
“Whatever does that mean?”- asked
the good Indy.
“Oil. it means a woman whexstays in
t’ house instead of goin' art ti> show
liersen,” explained the farmer vaguely.
'•Then I’m uot a heroine, an’ I’ll
thang t’ vicar to mind what hefs say
in’," snapped the wife. "I go to Ills
church as much as t’ other woinen do.
an’ he must lie blind if lie can’t see
me. Why, I’d five different colors ifi
t' bonnet I wore last Sunday!”—Lou
don Spectator.
Thermometer Down.
Little Willie—Say, pa. doesn’t it get
colder when the thermometer falls?
Pa—Yes, my son. Little Willie—Well,
ours has fallen. Pa-How far? Little
Willie—About five feet, and when it
struck the porch floor it broke.
