Political conjecture and uncer tainty is once again agitating the breasts of that portion of Georgia’s populace which loves a political tight more than anything else. This time it is as to who will wear the mantle out of which the late Sena tor Clay stole when lie answered the last roll call Sunday afternoon. At present public opinion would make Gov. Joseph'M.Terrell the fa vorite. Ex-Governor Brown has the appointment to make, such appoint ment to stand good until the legis lature meets in June, when that body may ratify the man the gover nor appoints,or name some one else to hold olHcc until the term of Sen ator Clay expires—in March 1915. However, there is a strong possibil ity that the state Democratic exeeu tive committee may wish to take the responsibility off the shoulders of the solons of Atlanta by ordering a primal y. In that case the people will name their own man. That, however, all depends on the state Democratic executive committee. At the .present most people are interested mainly in who will be apiHiinted by Governor Brown with in the next few days. This man, whoever he will he, and that is all up to the governor, will no doubt have somewhat of an advantage over a fresh entrant in the event of a later primary. Just what the leg islature will do, in case there is no primary, is another problem. How ever, whoever gets (he appointment now will he on the ground in good' shape for a light when it comes, j Possession is nine-tenths of tiie law j —.although this dues not always work out in polities. Two names have been prominent-1 ly nientioned of late. One is ex-i GoviVnor Terrell and the other is : 0. 1!. Pendleton, of a. Both I men. have been ardent and consist- | e.it supporters of Governor Brown ! ‘and democratic principles as advo- i caled by him. That Mr. i\ rroli | would not he averse to stepping in- i to the shoes of the late junior semi- 1 t, >r is reasonable to suppose. 1 hat Governor Brown will consider Mr. Terrell long and with some favor, is also within the bounds of reason Mr. Terrell has as yet made no statement. M-iicon people and many in south Georgia will go to the capitol J’ri day or Saturday and urge that Gov ernor Brown appoint C. R. Pendle ton editor of this paper. Yester day some friends ot sir. Pendleton telegraphed the governor for an ap pointment for the purpose of lay ing before him reasons for .advocat ing the appointment of the Tele graph’s editor. As for Mr. Pendleton he has de clined to discuss the matter more than to say : “I understand there is such a move on and of cou.se lam extreme ly sensible of the honor they are do ing me. However, all my life, 1 have hold that a newspaper editor ;is a newspaper editor and therefore wielded in his position an influence for good or ill which oft times is greater than at the command of men elected to the highest public office. I have not changed my mind in that respect one particle. However, lam free to admit thru! j any man ennnot help hut feel a little Battered to be mentioned as a possible nominee to the greatest de- j liberative body in the world. I j have not seriously considered it, | however.” —Macon Telegraph. News from Chester Route No. 2 There was preaching at Oak Grove Church, Saturday and Sun day. Had two very able sermons by Rev. J.
