DO YOU KNOW THEM ?
An objectionable type of person,
whose capacity for irritation is un
bounded, is the inveterate, careless,
book borrower. We all know such
people, and know them well as too
careless to return the books. If
they were prompt to return, we
not be so violent on the subject;
but they either keep the books they
borrowed so long until one is in des
pair of of ever seeing them again or
else they do not return them at all.
Many people fail to return them
through thoughtlessness. There are
ot' lers too indifferent, who sin in
this fashion. These are the inex
cusable ones. They cannot have a
real love of books, or this indiffer
ence would not manifest itself.
They would understand that
books to the book lover are valued
friends, and one feels justly in
censed at such carelessness and in
difference.
You do not know what associa
tions and memories may surround
a book loaned to you. Everyone
