Whipple’s Resignation a Misfor
tune
The resignation of Judge C. V.
Whipple is peculiarly unfortunate
at this time. It is almost in the
nature of calamity to several com
munities in the circuit.
He was peculiarly suited to the
duties of the Superior Court Judge.
We have not one word from
Judge Whipple, hut we strongly be
lieve that his retirement from the
bench is a direct result of a very
had system.
Judge Whipple is not a politic
ian; indeed a politician unfit iH for
the bench, lie shrank from the un
seemly strife and wrangle: for votes
between men who are sure to he
plaintiffs, attorneys, jurors, etc. in
his court.
Whatever is his reason the En
terprise deplores his resignation.—

Hdps fee Farmer fe Sell
THE FARMER was worried over the market
reports. Cotton was rising. When it reached
a certain figure he proposed to sell. The day
before it had almost reached his price. What
would it bring today?
• The farmer needed first-hand information at once. He
stepped to his Bell Telephone. The Long Distance connection
with the buyer in a distant city informed him thift cotton had
reached the top figure, and he sold his crop at a handsome profit.
The Universal Bell System enables the producer in remote
rural districts to keep in touch with market conditions without
the necessity of leaving home.
By the way, have you a Bell Telephone?

The New Railroad Now Certain
A mass meeting of the citizens of
UonhA'tn was held Tuesday night to
discuss the plans now under way
for the building of the Cary North
A South R. R.
A preliminary meeting was held
in the afternoon by the executive
committee, at which time the de
rails were gone into fully. At the
mass meeting the plan was outlined
by Mr. 11. L. Browh, president of
the road, so that the prospective
shareholders and citizens generally
might know just what was being
done and what was yet to he done
before the actual work was com
menced.
It is proposed-to begin work from
the Cochran end of the road right;

away and build as rapidly as i>ossi
j hie to Panvide and from there on
to (Jordon, which is the Northern
terminus of the road. The sugges
tion has been made by the citizens
of Milledgeville that the road be
carried on there and they stand
ready to offer considerable induce
ments.
The building of this road will he
one of the best things that could
happen for Cochran, as it would
bring us in closer touch with one of
the best sections of fanning territo
ry in the state and would develop
the country along the route just as
every other railroad has done.
There is no doubt that an invest
ment in the stock of this road would i
be a paying one, as it is a matter of
fact, that short lines pay better div-
