Col. Herrington is the son of
Solicitor General Alph Herrington,
Sr., of Swainslx>ro, one of Eman
uel County’s most prominent and
worthy citizens. He was for a long
time a country newspaper Editor
and is now an honorary member of
the Georgia Press Association.
COCHRAN BANKING CO.
At the annual meeting of the
Cochran Banding Co., the second
Tuesday in this month, the surplus
from 845,000.00 t >
00. An annual dividend
of 10 per cent was diclared.

The following old officers were
re-elected: J J Taylor, Pres.; J P

John M. Clark, of East
man, passed through the city Sat
urday, on the way to Hawkinsville.
Col. Saffold’s family has arrived
in Cochran from Mt. Vernon and
they are occupying the residence
formerly occupied by F. ( B. Asbell
on Dublin street.
Rev. A. M. Rich, of Hawkins
ville, made us a pleasant visit Mon
day. We are always glad to see
Mr. Rich. He is loved and appre
ciated by all denominations in
Hawkinsville.
J J Holmes, one of Bleckley’s
farmers, will leave in a few days
for Quay, Fla., where he has pur
chased some land for farming and
orange growing. As we said before
we are sorry to lose good farmers
from our county but wish him
much success in the land of flowers.
A young white man by name of
Durden, of Hawkinsville, was con
victed of violating the game Jaw
this week and .sentenced to thirty
days in the Pulaski County chain
gang His offense was killing three
squirrels. Look out hunters.
This young man is now on the gang
serving his time.
The Civic league will meet Tues
day afternoon, 2:30 P. m. January
21st. Business of importance to
transact. We hope every member
will be present. Definite plans will
he formulated in regard to the old
ditch. Come and hear what they
are going to do about it. Those
who a?e skeptical, just watch, some
thing is going to be done and don’t
you forget it and we knew there
would be as soon as the ladies took
charge.

Will Currell, formerly of Coch
ran, but now of Dexter, was in the
city shaking hands with his fiiends

F. B. Woodson has moved his
office from the Taylor and Mullis
building to The Cochran Lumber
Co.’s office.
J R Bland who formerly worked
one of the tricks for the Southern at
Cochran is now telegraph operator
at McGriffs.
Sheriff Floyd has established his
office in the room formerly occupied
by F. B. Woodson in the Taylor
and Mullis building.
W. E. Clark has accepted a posi
tion with the United Woolen Mills,
Cordele, Ga., as manager of the
Clothing Store in that city.
A. W. Waller, manager of the
Ocmulgee Guano Co., of Hawkins
ville, made a very pleasant call to
the Journal office, Monday.
J R Lamar, a former Cochran
hoy but now in Jt{ie transportation
department of the Southern Rail
way, visited Cochran Wednesday.
M H Smith left for North Caro
lina one day last week to join his
wife in a visit to the latters rela
tives. They will return to Cochran
in a few days.
R. P. Powell has opened up a beef
market in the building right in
front of J. E. Cook’s store on Beech
street, and invites his friends to call
around when they want fresh meats.

The Cochran Banking Co., and
First National Bank will he closed
on Monday on occount of Gen.
Lee’s birthday, which is on Sunday
the 19th inst., and which will be
observed as a legal holiday all over
the whole South. t
General Manager Thomas and
Train Master Lord, of the W. <fc T.
R, R., were in the city Friday. By
the way, Mr. Lord was telegraph
operator at, Cochran about eight
years ago. He is a splendid man
and merits his promotion.
Miss Lauraine Coley has returned
to Macon after a two weeks visit to
her parents, Mr. and Mrs, George
D. Colev. Miss Lauraine is one of
the brightest pupils in the Acaden y
for the blind. She L studying bo h
piano and violin, besides the regu
lar course.
Miss Lucy Powell has accepted a
position as teacher of the Pleasant
Hill school in this county. Miss
Powell is a graduate of the Cochran
High School. Is a very fine young
lady and we are sure will meet the
full requirements and give satisfac
tion to the patrons.
J A Ingram, of Hawkinsville,
was in the city Saturday. Mr. In
gram is an old citizen of Cochran.
He was proprietor and owner of the
Ingram House, an old landmark
for a long number of years. This
house was among the first built in
Cochran and was for a long time
the only hotel in the city. It is
now empty, delapidated aud almost
ready to fall down. This is a
splendid location for some kind of
an enterprise.
