“Miss T opsy T urvey Or
Deacon s Courtship”
Friday Evening, At School
Auditorium, 7:30.
SYNOPSIS
Topsy 'Purvey, a mischevious
young girl and her cousin Frank
play numerous tricks on their gov
erness and Deacon Jones, a heart
broken widower.
Act. 1. Mrs. Clarendon’s parlor.
The Deacon almost proposes to Miss
Spriggs, the governess, but is inter
rupted by Topsy 'Purvey.
A severe thunder storm arouses
uncanny feeling in the Deacon, the
appearance of Topsy and Frank dis
guised as ghosts, cause the Deacon
to faint. He is discoverd by Ned.
Act. 2. Lord Clarence arrives.
Topsy and Frank plan to play tricks
cn him. May Golden, Topsy’s
cousin tries to captivate the Lord
and win his vast estate. The Dea
con proposes to Miss Spriggs and is
accepted. Topsy makes friends
with the Lord.
Act. 111. Ned makes a contract
with Lord Clarence and in trying to
fill it, falls into the hands of
Topsy and Frank, who play a trick
on the nigger.
Mrs. Jones, formerly Miss
Spriggs, thinks marriage is a fail
ure. Topsy gives her a few lessons
on how to manage a husband.
Mrs. Jones demonstrates the lesson.
Frank and Topsy witness the Dea
con’s surrender. Ned explains the
situation to Lord Clarence. May’s
jealousy gets the best of her good
sense and she talks unguardedly to
Topsy. The Lord overhears the
conversation. May goes to me~* her
fate, but fate comes to meet her —
Ned enters —“Golly, wherebber dat
skalewag of a gal is ebberting jis
don’ get Topsy turvey suah’s yo’
born.”
The above play will be presented
at the school auditorium, Friday
evening, Dec. 12th, at 7:30. The
admission will be 25cts and all the
proceeds will be devoted to the
school Library.
This play is highly entertaining
and we are sure that everybody 4vill
get their money’s worth, and re
member you are encouraging a good
cause.
Our school needs a well equipped
laboratory",' and more books in its
library and this is one means by
which we may help these causes.
Let everybody who is interested
in the school and its improvement,
busy themselves in using their in
fluence to secure a large audience.
Lets have a house full, It is a
splendid play, presented by the
high school students and the pro
ceeds go to a good cause.
Let everyone interested in the
betterment of the school come out
and have an everting enjoyment to
gether. Remember the date, Fri
day, December 12th, at 7:00 I\ M.

the people of Cochran to attend the
performance of Coburn’s Greater
Minstrels on Wednesday night,
Dec. 17. Out of town reservations
will be attended to by Mr. Poole,
himself.
Mr. C. L. Mix the general man
ager of Coburns minstrels with Mr.
J. H. Ellis spent Tuesday in Cocli
