The governmental expei imont3
into the process of cane syrup
making has been brought to a suc
cessful conclusion and secretary
Wilson has ordered the saD of
ihe government factory which
was built at Way cross three years
ago.
This plant was established for
the purpose of giving a course of
study to cane syrup manufac
turers of the gulf states.
These manufacturers had ex
petienetd great difficulty in mak
ing a set up of uniform color, pre
venting it from reverting to sugar
and fermenting. The plant was
established by Dr. Wiley, chief
of the bureau of chemistry, and
his experiments proved entirely
successful.
The plant cost the government
less than fifteen thousand dollars
and resulted in the im uovement
of the annual prcducikn of near
ly ivvo hundred million gallons uf
syrup.
