YOUR BANKER—WHAT
HE CAN MEAN TO YOU.
How Much Time nd Money l)o You
Save by Being Able To Pay
Bills with Checks.
Tlie luxuries that we are enjoying
today have crept up on us unawares;
therefore we do not appreciate them
as fully as we should. If we could
recall the past, we would be extra,
ordinarily grateful for the privileges
of living in the present.
1 had the task of paying quite a
number of small accounts. I wrote
quite a number of checks. The bills
were all in Douglas. I put the checks
with the statements, enclosed them in
envelopes, put on a two cent stamp
and dropped them into a mail box. The
task was finished. My banker will
furnish me with a receipt from each
of the firms. He will file the endorsed
checks when they are presented and
paid, and they will come back to me
as receipts.
Suppose I could not have written
checks. My job would have been dif
ferent. It would have taken me sev
eral hours to go and pay these bills
and have those statements receipted
and it might have required more than
one trip, as the proprietor or book-

Where does my banker come in on
this great scheme of paying those
bills? He furnished the blank checks.
They cost him some money. He had
them printed. That cost him some
thing. lie furnished a teller to record
the checks and see that they were
properly receited or endorsed, which
takes time. That teller’s time was
worth something. Somebody paid it.
The banker paid it.
When 1 sit down and think how
much time and money the banker sav
ed me by making this possible, I won
der what I can do to compensate him.
Is it right for me to ride him and to
ride his institution? It seems to me
to be as little as I can do to give him
an account that will be profitable to
him, and carry a balance that will en
able him to serve me thisSvay without
loss.
If he wants to put a slip in my can
celled checks notifying me that my
balances were so small that he had
to charge me fifty cents for service
during the month, I will thank him
for it. I will be surprised that he can
do so much for fifty cents.
1 am convinced that he renders the
most efficient service at the smallest

in any of the other professions.
