LET’S HAVE A SCHOOL.
Editor Freeze: —Why can’t wc of
Douglas feel enough pride in our vil
lage, and enough interestjin the fu
ture welfare and upbuilding of the lis
ing generation to all unite our money,
energy and brain in the erection of a
school building, with proper school
furniture, and up to date appliances.
The building need not he of gigantic
proportions at first, but just in propor
tion at first to our ability, and con
structed on such a plan that each sub
sequent necessary addition will be or
namental as well as useful. If there
was no higher motive, we everyone
should feel a sufficiency of pride in
the upbuilding of our town. Douglas
being situated on high, rolling lands,
with natural drainage, pure water
free from lime or all other impurities,
salubrious climate, with two daily
fresh breezes almost equal to the coast,
could, with a little live energy, and an
altogether pull, be made a great edu
cational center for south Georgia.
For in addition to all other advanta
ges, we have within our midst, who
would willingly accept the arJuous re
sponsibilities of an instructor. Teach
ers, who are graduates of some of the
lot schools in the South—both in
musical and literary pursuits—whose
moral status is of the purest—who, if
entrusted with the care and training
of our children, would not only im
prove their minds, but teach them as
wall, uu to date society manners.
By all means we should give home
talent the preference, when it can he
secured. Lay aside any and all prej
udices, if any exist, and treat our
neighbor just as wo vvou’d he treated,
similarly situated, and come with a
pul!, and a pull altogether, without
delay, and build up a school second
to none ; and all unite for the goal of
our village and county, for naturally
God has favored us with one of the
b st eounties-in the state.
Your correspondent hears (with
pride) on all sides, tlie warmest of
congratulations fi r the present mau
agi moot of the Breeze, on its decided
great improvement. We should all
work for our county paper, because it
works for us. G. L. B.

Milos I,o‘t who was charged with
the murder of .1. Waison at Face's
still had a hearing before Juttiee Me-
Govren Friday and was bound over
to Su|ierior court. It will be remem
bered that in December, J. Watson,
wlm was working at Face's still about
six miles from Douglas, went oil to
his work and never come back again.
The last time lie was seen lie was giv
ing toward Miles Lott's house, and af
ter months of absence the sister of
Watson received information that caus
ed her to suspicion Lott of murdering
him. No clue to his whereabouts li m
yet come to light, and his body may
he slumbering on the sandy bottom of
some pond or lie may he singing the
songs of emancipation in the piny
woods of his North Carolina home.

Engineer Will Futch has been dis
missed from the B A W. rail mad,
presumably because he 1> and the e lgiu
eers in their grievance for a contract
with the Plant System. He is next
to the oldest man on the road and is
regarded as one of the best and
most careful engineers in the coun
try. It is a conceded fact that the
B & W. rail read hts the finest set of
engineers ot any road in the state, and
Mr. Futch has been largely instru
mental in bringing the men up to
this distinction. His and smissal will be
generally regretted.
