On Monday the fourth of May 189(1
as the sun began to sink behind the
Western hills, Lenora W. Corbitt, wife
of M. S Corbitt of Clinch county be
gan to breath her last, and just as
night began to spread her dark man
tle over the earth, her spirit took its
eternal flight and went home to God
who gave it. Seldom are we called
upon to mourn the death of one more
dcarks beloved and more highly re
spectful than that of Lenora Corbitt,
who on the fourth of May was called
to rest and was borne by angels to
that Celestial City above where all
is peace and happiness.
She was horn in Clinch county, Ga.,
Aug. 2(1, 18,17, and her whole life was
indeed a beautiful one. When only
a child prattling about the mother’s
knees she set examples that should
ever be an inspiration to a truer and
bettor life. We never saw a sweeter
child, ever ready with a kind word
and a helping hand.
Reared by Christian parents ami
surrounded by such influence, she
early imbibed the principles that
would have her do unto others as she
would have them do unto her.
At the early age of twenty she was
led to the marriage altar by M, S.
Corbitt whom she leaves to mourn
the loss of a dutiful and loving wife.
All that makes womanhood lovely
was found in her character. Asa
wife she was ever an example of fi
delity ; as a mother she was all that
could make a home peaceful aud hap
py, as a fr end she was all that
makes true and noble character, and
her kindness to all was a marked
characteristic. She was converted and
joined the B iptist church at an ear
ly age. After several years, she join
ed the Methodist church and was
received by old Uncle Daniel Morri
son of Waresboro. From that time
her life as a Christian became more
consecrated every day, and when
death came she met it with out
stretched arms, for sho had lived so
as to be ready when the message
might come to summons her to the
better home, ller devotion to her
family was touching and even iu the
last hour of life she manifested a desire
to make some one happy. Calling
her dear ones around her. she request
ed that she be buried at Salem Church
the one nearest her home, of which
she is a member : that it might be. a
pleasure, ton, for her children on
Sunday evenings to walk
over and scatter flowers
on their mother's grave.
She leaves nine children,
seven girls and two
sons of whom five are grown up men
and women. Those loved ones may
sigh for the touch of a vanished
hand but will comfort in the thought
that their irreparable loss is her eternal
gain. f>ne of her excellent traits was
the marked interest she manifested in
the rearing of her family and her ef
forts in this direction have proved a
glorious benediction.
For several years she was in poor
health and two weeks before her
death she was taken with measlets
and it soon became apparent to the
attending physicians that her chance,
for life were meager. She grew worse
and other physicians were called in, J
hut the dread monster held his grasp, ;
and on the above date her life went 1
