The democratic' party is so much
logger than the free silver question
that it would lie the height of foolish
ness to abandon the party on ac
count of the success of the silverites.
They have won the light, now let free
silver huye a fair trial —Tifton Ga
zette.
The Waycross Steam Laundry un
der the management of Messrs. Mason
and Carswell is one of the most en
terpising institutions in southern
Georgia. Its increase in businetjs for
the past year Ins been from SI2OO to
$7,000 a year. Mason and Carswell
are bustlers and they do good wor :.
A conference of free silver delegates
was held in Waycross Tuesday morn
ing in which it was expected that a
bolt would be effected in opposition to
too candidacy of Air. Brantley; but
better judgment prevailed and the
caucus endorsed Air. Brantley and ad
journed. It would have availed very
little if they had bolted : Air. Brantley
will represent the Eleventh in the
next, congress.
Atlanta is trying—she has been try
ing for a long time—to get Wesleyan
Of course Macon flics into a rage and
says “No;” but why does not Macon
do something for Wesleyan? The
grand old institution has done more
for Macon than all her other enter
prises. ami yet, and yet. Alueon ignores
its presence as though it noyer knew
Wesleyan. Atlanta will get Wesleyan
oils of these days if Macon sleeps on,
and Atlanta will appreciate it.
“Mamma'’ she said thoughtfully,
when she heard mother tell the maid
thaVohe was “not at home," “is it all
right to say you’re out when you are
in?”
|“Oh, yes. it’s the custom, you know”
explained ttie mother.
The little one pondered that for a
while, and then inquired in her sol
emn way :
“Suppose the Lord should say that
when we get to heaven?”
The Plant System Relief and Hospi
tal department is anew departure
in rail road manipulation. Its foun
dation principle is coersion, and for
that, reason wo cannot believe it to be
a worthy institution. In reality, it is
nothing more than an insurance
scheme under a benevolent guise, in
■which every employe of the Plant Sys
tem is compelled to enlist and contri
bute to its support. If man refuses
to join it he must give up his position.
When he joins it away his
own liberty and that of his family ; for
if he should get killed ou the system
his family cannot sue the compauv
and the relief fund of is all that
is paid them. The price of the insur
ance is high and there is no Escape
( ro m its payment.' Hr. Dunham, who
is averse to contracts, should remem
ber that, a good ru'e works both wax s

Viewing the situation from the stand
i point of a Democrat and friendly
ighbor, we can see nothing that
wot.: : justify any man who claims to
boa Democrat in withholding his sup
port from Air. Brantley. Of all the
Democratic nominees for Congress in
the State, we think Air. Brantley pie
eminenly entitled to the support of
every man in his district who lays any
claim to Democracy. The charac
ter of the man, the circumstances un
der which he was nominated and the
straightforward, manly, Democratic
tone of his letter of acceptance should
all appeal to true Democrats. Air.
Brantley’s letter of acceptance is one
of the broadest, clearest and yet most
unequivocal papers contributed to the
Democratic party in Georgia during
the present campaign, and it places
him where every loyal Democrat in
liis district, regardless of what his in
dividual views on the great question
of political economy on which Dem
ocrats have honestly differed may be,
can consistently support him. Air.
Braauley, in his letter of acceptance,
mounts the Democratic platform in
no half-hearted, hesitating way, and
Democrats who withhold their sup
port from him will be without excuse
or justification in the eyes of true and
loyal Democrats".
Denton,
Several from our community atten
ded the closing exercises of Prof Tur
ner's school at Shepherd on Friday
night last and reported a very nice
affair.
Air. P. W. McDonald and family
moved from She died to our little town
Saturday.
Air. A. Y. Driver and family moved
to Denton to-day.
Mr. Jesse Hartley of Broxton deliv
ered an eloquent Sunday school ad

last which was followed by a highly
appreciated sermon from Rev. J. M.

There will he a magic lantern show
given at Williams Chapel Saturday
night at B'oelock by Messrs. Jesse N.
