—Dr. ITeriot was called to the poor
farm Tuesday to dress a wound for a
little child, who had cut its foot with
a broken tea cup.
—Bev. Mr. Poston announces that
a protracted meeting wifi begin at
the Baptist church on the third Sun
day in this month.
—Elder Jno. Vickers will preach
the funeral of Mrs. Narcissa Meeks,
at Antioch church, on the first Sun
day in September.
—The projectors of the telephone
line between this city and Waycross,
via Nichols, expect to have it in opera
tion by the middle of September.
—Two white prisoners, Jack Davis
and Julius Cobb were carried to Way
cross last Friday for safe keeping, the
jail at this place being regarded as in
secure.
—Every democrat in the county
who has the good of lijs party at. heart
should be on hand on the first Mor.-
day in September. Let’s all get to
gether once more.
—lt is shameful negligence in any
man to send his wife, daughter or pa
rent off to spend the summer, without
sending her the Breeze. Ten cents a
month is all it costs.
—A special meeting of the County
Commissioners will be held here to
day for the purpose of leaving a spec
ial tax to build a courthouse. Future
generations will bless the Commis
sioners for perfprming this duty.
—The Bail road Commissioners of
Georgia, Messrs. Atkinson, Trammell
and Crenshaw, accompanied by
Messrs. Jno. C. McDonald of Way
cross and C. P. Goodyear of Brum
wick, visited our town Monday. The
Commissioners came on a tour of in
spection, and made a personal exami
nation of the Douglas <k McDonald Itv.
Judge Atkinson remarked that Doug
las had grown wonderfully during the
last two years.

not had the benefit of public fund, are
entitled to their share during the Fall
term. Those who have had the bene
fit of a part of the six and a half
months are entitled to the remainder
during the Fall term, beginning Aug
ust 22nd. Let all attend and get ben
efit of the public fund.

stationed at Tampa, Fla, is at home
on a furlough.
—Tom Sizemore, a young white
man charged with robbery, and Moze
ly, the murderer of Carver, broke jail
here last night.
—we fear too much rain will cause
cotton to shed. A few days of sun
shine right now would insure a good
cotton crop in Coffee.
—Mr. 1. W. Purdom of Sparks was
in town yesterday on a prospecting
tour. The Breeze would ho glad to see
Mr. Purdom move to Douglas.
—Mr. Bryant Bickctson, an old and
highly respected citizen of Broxton,
dropped in for a few minutes chat
Wednesday. He is an interesting
talker.
—Dr. Geo. w. Hcriot has formed a
copartnership with Dr. J. C. Wilson
at Pearson. He sent his drugs over
this week, llis family will continue
to reside in Douglas.
—The telephone line was to have
been completed to Douglas at noon
yesterday, but owing to a miscalcula
tion (he wire gave cut in the suburbs
of town, causing a delay of two or
three days.
—Our soldier hoys in Col. Bay’s
regiment, about twenty-five in num
ber, were to sail lor Santiago de Cuba
yesterday. They have been delayed
in Savannah several days longer than
they expected to be.
—The projectors of the Douglas
bank are holding a meeting here as
we go to press. The prime movers in
the enterprise are J. J. Le.vis, J. M.
Ashley, B. Peterson, E. A. Buck and
I. w Purdom. It is understood that
Mr. J. J. Lewis will move to Douglas
and be at the head of the institution.
