Pearson, Our Old Home.
We took a trip to Pearson last Sat
urday for the first time in years, and
had the pleasure of meeting some of
our old friends. Pearson does not
seem to be growing much, has had
some buildings destroyed by fire and
we found very few signs of improve
ment.
A good many p. ople from the coun
try were iu town and the merchants
were busy all day.
Mr. Moses Griffin is doing a fiue
business and carries a pretty good
stock of general merchandise. Near
ly everything you need can be found
at his store* and the prices are as low
as you will find anywhere. He is a
clever young merchant and we wish
him well.
Old friend Jeff Kirkland, having had
his store burned some time ago was
found in the store-room built by Bui
lard & Sessoms, about one hundred
yards north of the railroad, and he
was busy waiting on and paying off
his hands, employed in the turpentine
business. He is one of the reliable
men of the county.
Overstreet Harrel keep the post
office, also carry a stock of general
merchandise, and have a good run of
custom. They are clever and popular,
with a host of friends.
Dr. Joe Corbett has just finished a
handsome residence on Parker street,
about one hundred yards from his
office. The Corbett Bros, have a good
practice, are excellent physicians,
courteous gentlemen and have many
friends.
We c fleeted some subscriptions but
did not meet the success we expected.
Some people seem to think a news
paper man should spend his time and
money to get up a paper that must be
sent them regularly awaiting their
pleasure and inclination to pay.
They forget that he is continual! pay
ing out money for paper, ink type,
and other necessities, and when he
asks for his pay—sometime for several
years back dues-they run their hands
into their pockets and if they find a
stray half dollar or battered up quar
ter give it to him with a growl, and a
hard-time complaint.
