Florida truck farmers are shipping
straw-berries to northern- markets.
Col. H. J. McGee, well known citi
zen and prominent lawyer of Refiis
ville, died last Sunday night.
The Plant System has purchased
the Jacksonville. Tampa and Key
West railroad. The price paid is
$600,000.
Charlton county Superior court is in
session this week, and lawyers from
VVaycross, Brunswick and other places
are attendiug.
Louis Stickland a prominent citi
zen of Valdosta and one of tile best

He died last Monday of heart disease.

has held seven inquests since January.

Mr. J. F. Bennett, of this county,
and Mts.s Aiulon Simmons ol Ware,
were recently married. We 'missed
the item last Week but we wija them
much joy all the same.

BRIEFS FROM BROXTON.
The friends of little Eliza McGovern
are much pleased to see her again at
her desk in school.
Mr. W. A. Lott’s little son, Jesse, is
very ill with rheumatism.
Mr. John A. Minchew, w|io has a
position with Mr. Thaggard, has mov
ed to our town and has no house to
live in.
Mr. Matthew Tyson of Pearson an
ticipates moving to Broxtou, provided
a house can be found.
Mr. Jesse Lott has started three new
houses in Broxton.
Messrs, Fisher and Doubberly who
have been with Henderson & Cos. re
turned to Baxley Monday.
Mr. and Mrs. Tom Jones are on the
puny list this week. We hope their
illness is not of a serious type, and
that they will soon recover.
Mr. Jones sent to H izlehurst Tues
day for his blacksmith, who was to
meet him there on the train, hut he
failed to come.
Mr, Schuleman, the new merchant
of Broxton, will soon have a house
and will cease boar liug.
Mr. Philip Newbern went out to be
gin school on the river—this week.
We wish him success.
The picnic was a grand success,
April Ist. The day was fine and all
who attended enjoyed the day. They
were decorated with flowers from
head to foot.
Broxton intends to have a splendid
academy in the near future.
Farm work is now being pushed.
Most all have planted their corn and
cotton, and are preparing rice and
potato crops. Vox.

bedside of his sister Mrs. Danie Lott
of Nichols.
Miss Annie Roof of Nichols, Ga.,
passed through the city last Thursday,
enroute to Thomasville, Ga.
Mr. W. D. Middleton of lua, Fla.,
was in the city Sunday.
The levival meeting i t the First
Methodist church will continue
through this week. Bro. Oakes is a
fine preacher. May he be successful
in winning souls for Christ.
Bro. Glenn preached a very good
sermon Sunday night, his text was
“what think ye of Christ?”
Miss Madie Dekle, of the telephone
exchange, has been quite sick with a
sore arm, caused from vaccination,
fpr several days. '
Dr. W. H Buchanan has returned
from Baltimore, where he has been at
tending a dental college.
Hon. W. G. Brantley passed through
the city Tuesday, enroute to Charlton
county court.
Mr. Geo. McDonald, son of Bro.
Geo. McDonald, pastor of the First
Methodist Church, preached at Trini
ty church Sunday morning at eleven
o’clock.
