The hero of the “Lost Cause,”

of the old soldier, while.. ;hc rear
of the stage sat eighteen or twen
ty old veterans. Postmaster Pin

did the rest.
• The address was made up of tin
written incidents of the last days of
of that fearful struggle, and were in
teresting, being mixed with laugha
ble occurences and heart-touch*-
ing incidents of a brave people
struggling for what they thought
right.

Some Advice Before Primary-
JThis is the hist opportunity be
fdrethe primary that we shall have
t<| give the friends, of'Air. Estill
some advice—remind them of what
tljey are already informed.. This
businef - has reached
i serious point, and he friends of
Mr. Guerry and Air. Terrell are
desperate. The nearer-the approach
Of the day at which tl>,- people will
jfpeak they nute with dismay that
tv!r. Estill’s; following is becoming
more numerous, and that if they do
not resort to scheming and trickery
the day is lost.
Campaigners in their own inter
est who have recently passed over
rhe: county (anti who are taking so
into st in the matter looking out;
onl) for iheir own election) tell us,
'•that, the people of the country are 1
■ -till and Terrell—with very fe\y‘.
lor t/uerry. In towns, among the.*
lawyers and some few business*
men, alone are Mr. Terrell’s sup-j
porters, but it is not believed that
even in that Mr. Terrell has more,
voters in his fav or than Estill. Un
doubtedly Estill lead), in the race.
This is well known, if tot admitted.
therefore, friends, you must see
that you have true mdu to assist in
the ballot-box work, men at the
voting presincts, men to examine
the tickets of their friends and see
that the names are properly crossed
out, when that friend needs or asks
lor sue!) examination. Anil no
man who is a friend, or intends to
vote for Estill should allow a man
on the other sides to examine his
ticket. We have known shrewd
desperate politicians to have tick- ,
ets up their sleeve, pretend to he a
man’s friend, look at his ticket and
before the duped one could detect
the move slipped the ticket out of
his sleeve, into the voters hand from
whence it went into the ballot-box.
V e call attention to this. There
are many other frauds. But friends,
if you must swindle, cheat or whis
key -.omi> man to vote for Estill,
don't do it. Honest men won’t.
Lstill don’t want to be governor
bad enough to have his triendscom
mit such crime—for crimes they
are, and the ones committing them
are criminals. It may be that noth
ing of the kind will be attempted,
but ii is well enough to watch.
Another thing—only good, true
men should be sent to cast the vote
of the county should the vote he in
favor of Estill. You know them—
you know your neighbors, you
know who will hold out firm in the
face of bribery and dead locks, anil
these ar ; the only men that should
be sent to cast the vote of the coun- j
ty for either Guerry, Estill or
Terrell. *
Now in conclusion, if you want;
an honest man vote for Estill. His
record as a patriot and soldier is
dean, tie.se who
'vise do it knowing that they
retailing falsehoods. Ba
