receive prompt shipment from the
mills to the markets.
Ii is n fact indisputable that the road |
in question receives an immeuse pu

a „d the complaint reaches us almost
daily that these same fr<*iit»enio» i .

their products at the hands of said

Complaints ill this direction, and
from other sources, against t ho mis

Ilic part of those in charge ot this tm
mediafe division, reach us almost dai

it our duty to enumerate a few of tlrasc
complaints.

course of almost total neglect of duty
on the part of the railway authorities,
has been of long standing, so we learn

Complaint No. 2, which also reaches

four points between Macon and Jos

her City, and .Siineney. This is a
tiiiseriibh; sehedulo fof.kc ‘’drummer,"
from whom also the road derive? an
imnicnNC revenue. I’or instance, states
a complainant, “We are compelled to
stopover it, Eastman for 21 hours on
12 or 3 hours’ business. Why? Because
the freight train-, nas-ingalmosl hour
ly, will not, for love nor monev. allow
us to hoard them for the next station.
This entails upon the drummer extra
expense, and the merchant and
sinner have i, to pay in the long run.
All this comes from the ill manage

head, we would mention the complaint
often made by pa si tiger* over the
Ilawkinsviiic brnte h. ibat upon reach¬

A system of education, of which the
leading idea is to teach much, rather
than to teach well, is radically defec¬
tive. The boy or girl who lias a sinat
foring of many tilings and an accurate
knowledge of nothing, is poorly equip
i»cd for the practical affairs of life.—
The schools of this country, both high
and low, are, as a rule, open to the
charge of imparting this imperfect cil
uention. In their ambition to carry
pupils over a vast range of subjects,
they thoroughly teach none. The
glimmering that is caught as they arc
hurried over one text-book after an
oilier, is of little value where accuracy
of knowledge is necessary. Hence it
is that many whose graduation from
famous schools would beget that ex
pectation of their being learned, are
foil id, on trial, not to be even well
informed. . Not a few . of . them . would ..
fail, if subjected to a moderately rigid
examination upon the most common

p]c»t Ki»irii*h con ^Inn-lion In arith
n otic the training may be a little bet
ter; but there are many graduates
schools that are thought to he good,
who could not fix the prices of a bill of
goods at a given per cent, of profit.—
Some mcivhnnts, however, stipplemeul
J this deficiency by adopting the very
simple rule of charging two dollars for
whatever has cost one.
