Mr. Pate Clements, a middle aged
white man, of Baldwin county, com
mitted suicide last week by hanging
himsell. Financial troubles.

The total loss is estimated at $800.
During the year 1888, there were
827 marriage licenses issued in Ful
ton county,and 128 suns filed for
divot ce. A number of these divorce
suits, however, were instituted by
colored people, and never came to
trial. But the record is unpleasant
in any aspect,.

Burke and Jefferson. Judge Emory

East week, says the Star, the
body ol Mr. Warren Sutton, who
was murdered at Fort Gaines about
ol years ago, was disinterred for re
moval to another burying ground.
He was buried in a metallic ease,
ami the body was so well preserved
that the features were entirely
ral. Even the clothing and the
ing of the case were as good as when
the body was buried more than
quarter of a century ago.
Saturday last was an unfortunate
dav for children. Five were burn
ed to death in this State, In Ogle
thorpe, Mary Porter went to her
work, leaving her house in charge of
her four small children. By some
means the house took fire and burn
ed to the ground, and all four of the
Children perished in flames. A

their home in Cornucopia, carrying
with them the congratulations and
best wishes of all present.

manent system of permanent im
proved common or pnblie roads in
the entire State, hereby unite in n
call for a Road Congress, to assemble
in the city of Atlanta,on Wednesday
Alay 22)1 1883, to consider the sub
ject of improved roads in all its as
pects and bearings in order to digest
and formulate a judicious and eeo
nominal system. We hereby extend
a cordial invitation to every county
in the State to send up the most
enlightened and praetial citizens to
take part in the deliberations of the
Congress. The basis of representation
to be double the number of represena
lives each county has in the General
Assembly. Wo urge each county to
meet and select representatives to the
Congress at an early day.
