THE NEXT STATE FAIR.

The fair committee of tho Georgia
State Agricultural Sooicty, at the
rocent rqeeting in this city, made
some important changes in the
premium list. As will be seen by
tho following memoranda sumo ot
the premiums are handsome ones
and will be worth contending for.
The county displays at the next
fair, under the new arrangement,
will be large and instructive. The
committee continued the three ore
miums for county displays—#1,000
for best display, #500 for second
host and #300 for third best.
The committee has made quite an
improvement iu the manner of
reaching a satisfactory award under
the following scale of points as to
merit:
Recognizing 100 points as perfect,
agriculture will bo rated at 40, gar
den vegetables 15, home industry
15, fruits 10, manufacture 5, works
of art 10, woods 3, minerals 2.
It has been further arranged that,
county displays may bo made up of
Individual displays that will bo rated
in awards by the same schedule of
points as are fixed for county dis
plays. For the bost individual dis
play the committee have offered
#350, for second best individual dis
play #250, for tho third bost display
#150, and for the fourth best dis
play #100,
Spocial inducements have been
offered in unusually large premiums
for Georgia bred horses, mules and
oattle. Much tho largest part of
tha purses offered for trotting will
be given to Georgia bred horses.
The premiums for homo industry
have been much advanced. For the
best display of jellies, preserves, etc,
the committee have offorod #50, for
the seoond best display #30, For
the best and largest display in mer
it and variety of female handicraft,
#50, for second best display #25.
The committee reached out into
a new field in offering a handsome
premium to the mechanic making
the largest and best display of hie
workmanship.
The American Agriculturist, pub
lished a# 751 Broadway, New York,
offers #500 fbr the largest yield of
corn on one acre of land. This pre
mium is open to auy state in the
United States, The state fair com
mittee, desiring to encourage com
petition among Georgia farmers tor
this premium, will add ##60 to the
premium offered by the Agricultu
rist if the premium be taken in this
elate. If the Agriculturist's pre
mium is not taken m this Btate the
committee will award to tho best
yield, #100. This last premium will
»ot be awarded unless, the yield
reaohee one hundred bushels.

measuring, etc., can be learned by

The fair witl open October 23d and
eontinue nine days.
The premium list is now in the
bands of the printer and it will soon
