Death. 1
John l\ Williams, who taw }
!y lived about three miles north |
of town and moved to Olay conn-
tv, Alabama, several years ftgo,
died at his home there on the 12th ,
of July alter au illnass of several
weeks duration He was about
eighty years old at the tuna of j
“ui7o??“ «a3e»
\tho will learn of his death with
sorrow and sympathy for his wid¬
ow who is now aged and feeble.
His life here was one of hones¬
ty and mdnstry, and no one who
knew him doubted his word for
anything, i'eace to his ashes and
a tribute lor honesty to his inem
ory.
.That Throbbing Headache. ,
Would quickly leave you if you
uses Dr. King’s New Life Pills.
Thousands of sufferers have proved
their matchless merit for sick and
nervous headaches. They raake
pure blood and build up your
health. Only 25c at Dr. J. R
Tucker’s drugstore.
The Demoeratie Nominees.
The Democratic primary held
last week nominated some of the
county's best men, while it defeat¬
ed others equally oh good, In
many cases one candidate was
equally us well qua hi led. as good
a citizen and democrat as the 0110
who (\eientixl.him, hut some had
to he defeated.
Disappointment and defeat are
inseparable from the fortunes of
politics, and each man who enters
into that field must necessarily
know that all cannot be chosen.
And he goes into our couuty pri¬
maries pledging bis honor and his
sound democracy to give the same
support in defeat, to Hie tici.et,
that ha would expect for himsell,
if nominated. We have great re
speet for the manhood of the men
who make up the rank and file of
democracy in Franklin county.
We would not insult that respect
by supposing that any bitterness
engendered will be allowed to sur¬
vive or he felt in its effects at the
ballot box next fall,
We have already heard of some
expressions of dissatisfaction and
disloyalty on the part of the de-
fwaUjd f a ’ t0 " ,. 1 lucil i> ... w ' J «‘ ve no wei « l)t .. i
whatever, except as the oxpres-
sioas of immediate and keen re- j
sentinent probably impossible to at j j
onceovercorae on the occasion of
um xjieeted defeat. We doubt no j
man s democracy who was defeated j
last Thursday, nor do we attribute
any hasty words that may hat e
been uttered by the defeated, as
expressive of his real sentiments
or mature judgment.
Let us have done with the talk
that there are those who entered
into the conditions of our prima¬
ry with the solemn pledge to
abide by it, that will bolt and
prove disloyal by going over to
the other |xirty. The Advance
touches for the fealty of every
man who stood for office. The
assertion that , any one of „ them
will prove untrue to las manhood
and hit politics in a malignment
tin t time will not sustain. !
We expect to elect our ticket
this year, by the only way possi¬
ble—the united strength oF the
democracy. We have all already
forgotten the little family contest
m which we have recently been
engaged, and w ill present a united
front and assist the grand old com¬
monwealth this year in rolling up
an hundred thousand majority.
No man under our form of gov¬
ernment has a lease upon any
office. There will be other oppor¬
tunities for onr people to reward
the ambitious and meritorious
democrats whose colors have gone
down in defeat this year. And
Tho Advance assures them that it
has not been that our people love
them less, or are indifferent to
their claims, but simply that a
choice had to be made.
We carefully refrained from tak¬
ing any uiutuo stand in our connty
affairs, endeavoring to state each
man’s case fuirly and honestly, in
order that no bitterness might be
engendered that would destroy
the good effect of conciliatory
words that in all human probabil¬
ity, it might be necessary for us
to utter. There was one man par¬
ticularly in the race who was
bound to us and ours by the deep
admiration and affections of a
life time—Hon. W. R. Liftle,
around whom the greatest storm
But even in his case wfe

saw it which we did for each of
the other candidates. We

that ias dawned sinee the
foundation of the republic. The
yery cornerstone upon which
fathers founded the voung nation
threatens to be overturned by the
most dangerous and corrupt set of
scoundrels that ever went up to
the nation’s capital. The insolence
of wealth has corrupted our bal¬
lot box and threatens the rights of
the common people as po other
power known to our civilization.
It has come to be that
upon millions must be spent in
«very presidential ., campaign The
£ rea t question is, shall the people

I one of the great powers of the

strength and glory of our popula¬
tion has been wiped out ? We ex¬
pect a mighty protest to go up from
thousands of widowed and desola¬
ted homes all over this land-
made 30 that the rascals might
have a chance to steal m Cuba and
the Philippines.
The conditions appeal deeply to
the heart of every patriotic Amor
icav—-too deeply for any personal
bitterness to intervene.
There is only one great political
|K>\ver, and will continue to be
only one, to which the poor man
can look with equal assurances
with the rich, lor justice and pro¬
tection. There is only one to which
the seventy millions of our people
can look in confidence for the
preservation of the young nation
with which all our hopes rest.
