c ITIES and towns throughout the
country will soon have a season
of general renovation by Indi¬
viduals. The year’s accumulation of
rubbish is to bo gathered up and set
out ready for the municipal collectors.
Yards are to bo put In order, houses
nnd outbuildings are to bo painted,
fences and sheds to be repaired, vacant
lots to be cleared of weeds and every¬
thing to bo made spick and span, fresh
and wholesome and altogether delight-
ful
That Is to say, nil this will be done
If every householder does what is ex¬
pected of him by the cleaning up and
paint up committees which are con-
dueling the should campaign.
And why it not bo done? The
expense for each home will not he
yout, the labor need not he hard, and
the result will he something for all of
us to enjoy nnd perhaps t» brag about.
For a clean city *r town is eminently
desirable, not so much because of its
greater attraction, although tliatak »3
to worth all tl>e effort, bat because of
Its increased healthfulness. Dirt breeds
disease, and cleanliness Is the first
principle of sanitation.
So let us all join and make our town
shine like a hoy’s face after the mater¬
nal scrub. Let u* dig down into the
dark corners of our basements anti
closets, throw out all the old rags
and papers, wash the fly screens and
get them ia pla*e, fet busy with the
paint brush and the psuntag knife and
the lawn mower aud then the result
will be gratifying.
