A Swindle Exposed.
Swindles, like tho following, frequent¬
ly occur up North wlicro population is
crowded, hut this is tho flrst instance of
the kind that has come to our notice at
home.
Mr. Jim Barlow, a vory worthy young
man of Leoton, lately received letters
from what was represented to bo a
wealthy tobacco firm of Cincinnati, O.,
offering him a lucrative position as a
drummer, and at tho same time in most
complimentary terms, recounted Mr. IPs.
characteristic energy, integrity, etc., all
of which would so eminently fit him for
the [dace. The firm proposed to forward
a complete outfit C. O. I)., valued at
$10, which Jim was to tako out of tho
Express Office, and directed to sell on
commission four days, after which he
was to enter upon regular business at
$100 per month, and expense paid. Mr.
Barlow answered tho letter, and in due
time the samples and outfit came, said
outfit consisting of a few neatly done up
packages, containing probably sawdust
or something equally as worthless. The
young man suspected a swindle, and
very wisely refused to redeem tho ship¬
ment. Had he sent outlie money, of
course the bogus firm would never have
been heard from.
We give the above more for *a warn¬
ing than an item of news. Let our
young men beware .—Awjuxln Ncuia.
