minds of some of our gossipers no little.
The answers given by all do not agree,

self.
A man bating a horse sells it for $90.
He turns around and buys it back for $80.
He theu resells it for $100.
How much profit did he make on the
transactions?
Some claim that he made $30, Others,
that he made $20 and s-roe claim he

“A PAPER OF. FOR.'AND BY THE PEOPLE. J*
THE PAST, TIIE PRESENT AND

A Former Resident of Georgia Gives
Some Interesting Readiug.
Mlicottville N. Y. Mar 31 1898.
Editor of Peoples Advocate;
Returning from oar county court today
I find the Advocate which I always pick
up at once to get the news trom oar
five years home in Georgia,, where ray
only daughter waa born and who bear
the name of that Empire State of the
S raih. Since you have published a private
letter of miue which I did not intend for
publication, I will now write one that you
may publish or throw into the waste
ket as you choose
The letter you published on the 33d in
staut, easily explains why a lawyer,
me, can belong to)the Peoples Party
few lawyers do. My lessons of hard ex
penence put me there. The brave, noble
un.elfish hearts of Watsou and Weavor
put them there.
A heap of brave good aoutheru boye e»a
being born poor, as I know, and southern
girls as welt.
Our task ia to redeem them from auch
a fate. A mighty task indeed as times
are. In memory I feast on the thousand
generous, hospitable, gentle kindnesses
tnat I and miue received in Old Georgia
Why will not such a people just opeu
their eyes and be just to

Your locatica now, in Crawfordvillle,
brings back to me a flood ot memorise
some glad, some sad.
Before I was burn, or he ever married,
my father spent a year iu South Carolina
and Georgia, aud trom his lips, 1 learned
to Jove the Southern people.
A favorite and talented cousin of mine,

married a brave youug Georgian, and their

Uutil the mails closed, she used to give
me ha letters to read, and sit by me and
weep as I read. 2uea came the long
suspense, never to end ou earth, when my
own latbsr learned from rebel prisoners,
alter long a~d patient inquuy, that he
tell mortally wouuded in a suit ot gray
tightiug for the Lost Cause iu the battle
of Autii-tuui, Autl my lather waa there on
the other side.
She and her husband well knew Alex¬
ander jj. Stephen* who is venerated iu
the North as the wisest and best oi all
the Southern states man, and often she
told me of times wheu they diued with
that great and good man, aud of hia words
ot wisdom.
And now I am writing to his home sa¬
cred with the highest, grandest words
that an American can conceive s Liberty

History does not record a fouler plot
than wascoucocted in June 1893 of which
tha South itself was made the suffering
victim and cats paw and was made the
innocent instrument of reviving the
neatly dead sectional animosity with
which Plutocracy bad so loug kept itself
in control of this nation, The foul city
slums of the Southern states were the
last ditch chosen for the last desperate
