Mr. and Mrs. A.Lesser’s little infant

circumcised last Sunday at their home

fully hurt last week by Ed. Smith,col

though his wounded eye is still swollen

The improvements on the Baptist
church are rapidly progressing, and
when completed will add vastly to the
appearance of the building,
Mrs. Geo. Larkin, who has been an
inmate of Ihe asylum for the insane, at
Milledgeville, for some time, has been
entirely restored, and has returned
with her husband to their home in Co¬
lumbia county.
Last week our young friend, Louis
Williamson, near Mesena, killed tv:o
eoachwfiip snakes, one of which was
eixft. four inches long,and three inches
in circumference, and the other was
five fset ten inches long.

the fact some thought lie had been
killed and laid on the Railroad track,
and that the Coroner had gone to hold
an inquest. The evidence before the
jury showed cousiusively that lie was
killed by the train, uud such was tli. ir
verdict,

it should be applied in this neighbor
hood. There are some parlies about
here that would be a disgrace even to
tiie chain gang,
Gus Kelsy, an old colored man who
was for many years known as a
workman in Martin’s wagon shop left
his home early Wednesday morning
and nothing more was seen or heard of
him until Friday morning whe he was
found by Mr. James Rogers lying in a
swamp about three hundred yards from
liis house witli his throat cut from ear
to ear. He committed suicide’

R. D. D. Johnson’s, on Buffalo creek,
died. It had been sick about two

The report lias readied Lexington
that one of Mr.BillCunningbam’s sons,
who went from Oglethorpe with his
father to Texas, several years ago, was
hung on last Friday. The rumor did
not say whicii one it was or whj’ he
was hung.
Miss Mary Sanders, of this place,
has been in bad health for a month or
so back.
Rev. J. H. Echols, of this place, left
last Thursday morning for Rock
Bridge Alum Springs, A a., to be gone
some time for his health. Ilis face lias
been again troubling iiim considerably
lately and tiiis water is quite beneficial
to him.
And still we are glad to chronicle
another building for Lexington. Lati
mer Bros, will occupy the Masonic
building and will have another room
built on the back part jf the store for a
provision room. It will be put up
right away.

Improved farm toots are increasing
in Oglethorpe.
Mr. Ben Williams, who shot the ne¬
gro preacher at Winterville was ac¬
quitted m Clark Superior Court.
Mr J. W. Rea es. of Watkinsville,
and Miss Cora Wilkins, one of Ogle¬
thorpe’s fairest daughters were mar¬
ried last Wednesday, the 6th inst.
Miss Saliie Furlow was suddenly
called to her father’s in Madison, to
see her sister. Airs. Mullie Cox, who
was in a dying state, last Tuesday.

One day last week, near Sandy Cross,
at a picnic, two negroes got into a dif¬
ficulty, in which one was seriously cut
j with a knife in the hands of the other,

Mr. II. C. Bugg, of the Falling
Creek neighborhood, has the oldest
gourd in the countv, State.' and probably the

this gourd for a powder gourd.
There is a grave in this county ‘died in
which lies a somewhat miser who
not long ago. He made Ins will, giv

cash, which he requested to be put un¬
der his head and buried with his body.
It was served as requested and the
grave lies uninterrupted, containing
the specie not ten miles from Craw
ford.
Last Saturday as the crowd was re
turning from church at Mill Stone, a
sad accident occurred to Mr. Frank
T. Tiller, one of the best citizens of
the county. The mule that he was

killing him almost instantly. The ac
cident occurred about three o’clock
Saturday evening, and he breathed his
last about sunrise Sunday morning,

—The Conyers Weekly tells the story of
fortune as follows: “When old man
Ben Gregory died it was thought that he
was very rich, but his wife and son, Boh
Gregory, so we are told, claimed that the
old man had hid his money, and that they
did not know where it was. For the last

and the children, believing that the money
was still somewhere about the house,
made a search for it, and succeeded in
finding §11,000 in gold. Considerable stir
is being made about it, hut we believe
that so far Boh Gregory holds the money.
We also hear that there is a good deal of
the money deposited here in our town,

years.”
—The Hawkinsviile News has the fol¬
lowing : “Mr. William L. Hooks, of
Booiy, related to us on Monday a remark
able occurrence on Friday last on the old
Nathan Youngblood place in that county,
