Married, at the residence of Mr.
Thomas R. Burnside, on Thursday af¬
ternoon, September 20, 1883, by Rev.
C. C, Carey, Mr. Henry A. Burnside
and S.iss Eugenia P. Anderson, all of
McDuffie county.
We have heard of but few from this
county who intend visiting the Louis¬
ville exposition.
On Saturday last Mr. Carlton Smith,
of this vicinity, met with a very pain¬
ful accident, lie was in the press room
of Col. Fulton’s gin house, and step
lied upon a plank of the floor whicli
gave way beneath him when he fell
through to the ground, a distance of
eleven feet. One boue of his left arm,
just above the wrist, was broken and
both thighs considerably bruised.
OGLETHORPE.
Crawford News-Mouitor, September 1 6th.
We learn that Salurn church will
soon be overhauled and made new.
A negro woman tried to whip lier
husband because lie voted for no-fence.
The Georgia Railroad has had to pay
$130 for the stock they have killed in
two miles of this place in the last two
months.
Prof. A. J. Wurm, of Atlanta, and
Miss Eva Harnett, of this county, were
married at the residence of the brides
father last Thursday morning.
Mr. James E. Freeman and Miss
Anna Hunter, both of this county,
were married last Wednesday night,
at the home of the bride’s motiier.
After the vote w'us made known to
the public, last week, voting it was found a
great deal of illegal Mr. in many of
tlie districts. Thursday, Geo. II.
Lester, no-fence, and Dr. Bob. Willing¬
ham, fence, were appointed canvassers,
and Mr..Thus. D. Gilliam as judge, to
contest the election and found the no
fence vote 4 ahead.

LaFayette, Ind., September 25.—A
daughter of (J. Atkinson, aged 18,living
a few miles in the county,was outraged
and murdered while alone at home.
Her throat was cut and she was other¬
wise mutilated. No arrests have been
made.

A Russian Jew committed suicide
at Ooakdale, Conn., a few weeks ago,
and the suicide was followed by a ter¬
rific thunder-storm. The two events
so worked upon the minds of the other
Jews in the place that they told the
mill boss for whom they worked that
Moses appeared to them in the storm
and commanded them to leave the
place. Accordingly they have all gone,
hag and baggage.
