THE JOE BROWN HOUSE GONE
Many Things of Importance Connected
With This Old Belio.
' The old Joseph E. Brown house
is being torn down. This old relic
of the late war is passing out of
existence. It was here that Jos
Brown refugeed during the war.
It was in this house that all the
important state documents were
kept for a while for safety. It
was here, so it is said, that a large
number of legislators, when forced
to leave the state capitol, came to
confer with the governor. It was
the only house in all this section
at the time. When Cordele first
started, this house was located on
corner of 11th avenue and 7th
street where the large three-story
Suwanee Hotel now stands. The
house was then carefully moved
to 15th avenue. It is a two-room
log house with passage-way be
tween, has four small shed rooms
with a front and back porch be
tween. The land on which this
house is located was recently sold
and the purchaser, as above stated,
is tearing away the building,
probably to give room for another
and more commodious structure.

AND STILL CORDELE
This Time a Two-Story Brick, Granite
Front Office Building.
In the last issue of the Sentinel
attention was called to the fact
that Cordele was to have a new
brick union depot and a new bank ;
that while other towns stand still,
Cordelo’s steady growth is notice
able and attracts attention of the
people who come and go.
This week we chronicle the fact
that Messrs. J. T. Hill and J. G
Jones are to erect, jnst across from
the Suwanee Hotel and fronting
Eleventh avenue, a handsome
two-story brick building with
granite front, The building
is to be 25 feet front by 100 feet
back, both floors to contain rooms
suitable for business offices. The
building will be an ornament to
the city and prove attractive to
those who desire convenient and
commodious offices.
Deputy Sheriff Sheppard's Goat.
Deputy Sheriff Sheppard was in
Cordele Tuesday looking as pleas
ant as usual; in fact, as a rule,
nothing seems to ruffle the even
temper of the deputy sheriff, but
on l this trip he was somewhat ruf
fled ks he recalled the recent ordi
nance enacted by the city council
of Vienna, “discriminating in fa
vor of hogs, dogs and cows as
against goats,” as he expressed it,
when it comm to street privileges.
The deputy sheriff owns a very fa
mous goat, thirteen years eld,
named Bill.
Bill has been owned by six or
eight different families, is weil
and favorably known by man'
people in Vienna, and has senie
like a man. Some six years ago
the town council passed an
ordinance similar to the one re
cently passed against allowing
goats on the streets of Vienna,
but at that time the council was
generous enough to discriminate
between goats and allowed Bill
street priyileges and he freely
walked the streets unmolested.
The recent ordinance, however,
keeps Bill, as well as other ani
mals of his make, off the street of
Vienna. This is rather hard on
Bill in his ripe old age, and all
who heard the deputy sheriff ex
plain the situation agreed that he
had a right to assail the ordinance
which reflected on his famous goat.

For an Editor to Recommend Patent
Medicine* ?
From Sylvan Valley News, Brerrad, N. C.
It may be a question whether the
editor publicly of a newspaper has^the of right
to recommend any the
various proprietary medicines which
flood the market, yet as a preventive
of suffering we feel it a duty to say
a good word for Chamberlain’s Colic,
Cholera and Diarrhoea Remedy. We
have known and used this medicine
in our family for twenty years and
have always found it reliable. In
many cases a dose of this remedy
would save hours of suffering while
a physician is awaited. We do not
believe in depending implicitly on
any medicine for a cure, but we do
believe that if a bottle of Chamber
lain’s Diarrhoea Remedy were kept
on hand and administered at the in
ception of an attack much suffering
might be avoided and in very many
cases the presence of a physician
would not be required. At least this
has been our experience during the
past twenty years. For sale by J. B
