TERMS.
One Year, $1.69.
Six Months, 8 .80.
Mlt. Editor:
The amount of school funds and
the length of our public school
term being called to my attention
by the report of the C. S. C. to the
last Grand Jury, unci after getting
the following information 1 belie ve
we school patrons of Rabun coun
ty should have a five months pub
lic Bchool term for the present
year.
In 1897 Rabun county had $3,-
707.00 with which our schools were
run five months, in I9OI our pub
lic_school funds nad increased to
to $459l.0U, an increuse of nearly
$900, or one fourth, and our schools
were run only lour mouths, (a de
crease of one month or one fifth.)
Why is t it necessary that un in
crease of one fourth in school funds
should make a decrease of one fifth
iu the length of ierm,_or in other
words, if $3707.00 run our schools
five months in 18»7, how long
ought $4600.00 to run our schools
in I9O2?
Tho school of which 1 am a pat
ron has |140 pupils and each re
ceives $2.50, making $860 for the
term, or $70 per month for five
months. Now 1 think $70.00 is
sufficient amount to pay two teach
ers for one month's leucaiug aud
as every.child receives, the. same,
I see no reason, with an economi
cal admistrution and a small ap
propriation for certuin schools,
why we should not have a 5 months
term. Towns, While and Haber-
ergham have always had a 5 months
public school since 1S97, uud why
can’t RabuL ?
1 will suggest a few changes
which I think necessary in our pub
lie schools;
1st. The salary* of the C. S. C.
be two dollars per day instead of
three dollurs, and tLcmembers ot
the Board one dollar per day in
stead of two, thereby reducing the
expense of the administration one
ha,If nearly.
Second. Certain sub-districts
Should be re-districted, that the
pupils may be moro evenly. divid
ed; in fact, there Beems to be no
regularity in this matter.
Third. A few schools where the
number of children will not draw
a sufficient amount to justify a
teacher to teach five months, a cer
tain amount should be set aside to
meet this deficiency.
What 1 hove said has not beeu
to cast reflection on ulny one, but
are my own ideas, and 1 hope that
the Board of Education may devise
some method toenuble Rabun coun
ty to have a five months pubLc
school as does Towns, White and
Habershum, our udjoiuihg coun
ties. ^

he wants to, but it was as poor as
a summer o’possum.
We met the executive committee

to Tallulah Falls, one day to
manage the election and one to
consolidate and got one dollar for
all five days’ work, man and mule,
and furnished our own wear and

who get from two thousand to
five thousand dollars a year.
1 don’t think Stonepile will over
do it again. We will roost on an
