E. M. SNOW, PRES;
Senate Will Con
firm Link Johnson
Soon.
“Link” Won't Re
sign
Will Keep Place On National
Committee Until It Snows
In' Hell.
Washington, July 28.—I will
never resign as National Com
mitteeman for Georgia until they
have sleigh riding in hell. Henry
1 Lincoln . Johnson, prospective re
corded of Deeds for the District
of Columbia, told a represerF
tative of the AFRO-AMERICAN
Wednesday.
“That Baltimore Sun of your
city and others lie and lie deliber
ately when they say I am to re-
. sign as aNational Committeeman
.When I assume the duties of
Recorder. Some colored people
believe everything a lying white
newspaper says.
“Neither President, nor any
member of the Republican Com
mittee, in fact, no one has sug
gested, directly or indirectly to
me that I resign as a Committee
man. It is a slander on the
President."
When asked if he expected anv
opposition to his confirmation as
Recorder of Deeds he s&id, “Yes
I expect Tom Haflin, Tom Wat-
son, and others of their kind to
oppose me. If I heard that Tom
Watson had gone to heaven, I
would want to go to the other
place.
When asked what were his
impressions of the 100 Republi
can* in Atlanta Tuesday to re
organize the party, Mr. Johnson
Said: I did not lose any sleep
last night over that meeting.
That meeting is like an appendix
dr a knot on a log, can be cut out
or chopped off any time without
barm. ,
We have a pairty organization
in Georgia and do not intend to
lay down supinely."
Mr. Johnson then expressed
the wish that the AFRO-AMERI
CAN and other race Journals do
not represent'his attitude.
It is xumored that as soon as
®r. Johnson is confirmed as Re
corder of Deeds, the name of Mr.
Charles A. Cottrili will be sent
to Register of the Treasury.

The congestion of population In
urban dlatrtca la an old complaint.
It seems to be an Inevitable conse
quence of our Industrial civilization,
and none of the schemes for Check
ing It ‘have proved effective. The
disclosure by the census that the/'
ettles are growing seven and a half
times faster than the rural districts ,
is therefore no surprise. It Is not so,
much that the cities have forged ahead
as that the country has fallen behind.
In the yean from 1910 to 1920, Indeed,
the dtles have gained only five new
Inhabitants where they gained, six In
the preceding decade. But rural
