BE CAREFUL WITH CAMP
• FIRES
It is not difficult for anyone to
he careful with! fire while jn
wooded areas. Here are simple
rules which if observed will go
for toward reducing the appall
ing number of man-caused for
est fires reported every year* ,
(1) Be 3ure your match is out
before you throw it away. Break
it in two with your fingers.
(2) Don't throw cigars, cigar
ettes atfd pipe ashes along the
roadside. If you are riding, im
provise ah ash tray in your ma
chine. A*tin can will do. If jou
are walking, grind your stubs,
matches and ashes in the dirt.
(3) Build small camp fires
away from brush and small
trees. Scrape away all leaf
mold and other inflammable ma
terial around your fire. ,
(4) Never leave your camp
fire unwatched. A wind may
spring up sny moment.
(5) Pour water oq your camp
fires when you are finished with
it. Be sure it is dead—then
bury it with dirt or gravel. Don’t
make the mistake of burying it
with leaf mold or other inf lam-
mable material'.
