EDITORIAL NOTES.
The postponement of the Chatta¬
hoochee Valley Exposition will only
insure a better exhibition at a time
when people have more leisure to see
it. It was well to put it off.
The State Fair will he held atMa
con from the 5th to the 10th of No
vember. The citizens of Macon have
subscribed twenty-five hundred dollars
in addition to what they have already
given, to insure its success, lt will
be a splendid exhibition and will be
very largely attended.

cially the fair has been well managed
and everybody who subscribes to the
capitol stock can rest assured, under
this record, that his money will he
used so as to make the largest re
turns.
A toper in North Carolina last
week killed himself with whiskey in
a very peculiar way. He obtained
an entrance into a distillery and mak¬
ing a syphon, one end of which he
placed in a barrell of whiskey, he
laid down on the floor on his back
and sucked the other end. As soon
as the flow* w r as started he allowed
the stuff to literally fill him up and
next morning he w as found dead, the
liquor still running into his mouth
from the barrel above. He present¬
ed a horrible sight.
Col. J. M. Mobley, democratic
presidential elector for the fourth
congressional district will deliver an
address in . the court house here next
Tuesday at noon, upon the issues in¬
volved in the present campaign. Col.
Mobley has waited at the request of
Hon, Thomas TV. Grimes, democratic
nominee for Congress, until now he

trict, that that gentleman might he
with him. Congress has held longer
than was expected and Mr. Grimes
has been detained in Washington, so

district alone.
At the Harris county fair last week
there were on exhibition pair of
pants worn by a bridegroom m this
county about sixty years ago. r ** hev
were white, of a kind of drill
mg, and were made up
after the ancient style that one re¬
members seeing occasionally worn by
a few old gentlemen ten or twenty
years ago. Now we have insisted
'
that Harris is ahead of Talbot in her
natural resources and we desire to
allude to these breeches as a case in
point. We have seen Talbot with
displays 1 J and the best antiquity 1 J of this
kind within her borders is a pair 1 of
pants 1 worn in > the long ago hy Col.
