CURRENT EVENTS.
The Georgia legislature has been
organized by the election of H.D.Du
bignon of Savannah, president of the
senate and A.S.Clay,of Cobb,speaker
of the house. The old secretary of the
senate and clerk of the house were re
elected.

Dr. I. P. Cheney, of Hamilton, was
elected chaplain of the house and John
Jones chaplain of the senate. Mon¬
day, Nov. 12tli, was set apart for the
election of judges and solicitors.

Brady, of Sumter, has re-introduc¬
ed what was known at the last session
as the “Brady Bill.” It was lost at
the last session and will surely he again.

Dr. Felton has introduced a hill to
sell the state road. A lease would be
much better. It would not be safe to
put this valuable property in . the hands
of monopolists.

This legislature has gone to work
in good earnest and will accomplish
good.

Gen. Alexander, president of the
Central railroad, has had a confer¬
ence with the Richmond Terminal
and expresses the opinion that there
will be no change in the policy of the
Central.

Atlanta lias secured an appropria¬
tion of $125,000 for the improve¬
ment of the custom house. Atlanta
always gets there.

Dr. Chase, of Lake Weir, Fla., has
a grape vine of the flower variety
which yielded 15 bushels of grapes
the past season.

It is estimated that 100,000 acres
will he planted in tobacco in Florida
the next year.
