‘“Macon” on Crawford €o.
For weeks before the first day
of August, the canvas of expecta¬
tion was daily being painted by
brushes dipped in the rosy
ing colors of anticipation wielded
by the adempt*fingers of fresh
hopeful youth, as the time drew
.near, the picture became brighter
til at last it stood revealed, per
feet in the shades and tints of
anticipation, and soon to be tried
by the critical hand and eye of
that stern master. Realization.
The day for us to leave Macon
for this long looked for trip to
Crawford, came at last, and Ulus
'abed the first page of the history’
our trip, by a sunny summer
dty. Our trip through, by private
conveyance, was a splendid suc¬
cess, as a perfect pleasure.
On the day following our arri¬
val at Ceres, the annual conven¬
tion of the county Sunday school,
convened at Knoxville, and bring¬
ing into use every available con¬
veyance, locking every door, fast¬
ening every window, everyone-of
us, from mamma to the baby,
went to the convention, after the
manner of these ^delightfully,
ho. pi able country people. Noth¬
ing could have been more pleas¬
ant than our day spent in Knox¬
ville. The crowd was immense,
and through the day was very
warm, the ices furnished by Mr.
M.J. Moore’s stand, presided over
by energetic, polite young i -.on,
refreshed the thirsty crowd, who
had they not desired the refresh¬
ing ices, could scarcely have with¬
stood the “sweet”- smiles'# these
young gentlemen in charge.
The exercises of the various
schools were very interesting, the
speeches were good, the music
line, having that true round
about it, that tells ot its home m
the heart, from where it conies
gushing and sparkling, refreshing
the soul as the clear cool
of a brook, refreshes life tired
body.
_At a late hour the croud uis
persed, with cordial hand grasps
and a hope to meet agai n on next
vear.
