Gentle reader, unbiased thinker, stop here and examine these propositions can;- fully, candidly, Has the name of democrat become odious, and why? If this burnt of patriots arc ns num erous as they protend to be vastly iu tho majority, why do limy' desire to abandon their honored family name and adopt a now one? An other idea has occurred to me, if they have the good of the poor |vt heaft flpd ;;rc Ipmcslly hauling Mr “equal rights for all,” why are their meet-- ings secret? .Surely they would lift up their banner inscrilied with their grievances on one side and their holy demands for “equal rights” on the other march to deserved victory. I made this remark to a gentleman who was posing us a people’s man “If tho democratic party is rotten, how long have you been out and when did tho rot commence?” Now there are five hundred Smiths—five of them become corrupt and the four hundred and ninoty-flve say, wo will quit these Smiths, they aro a rotten Hut, we will henceforth he Joneses! The rilnety-and nine that went not astray, Instead of saying to these rascally leaders “stop down and out” say yon are too shat-]) for us, we will try a new fold, and raise another brood of rascals; for, after all, this great fuss is to make silver as good as gold, that is to give prominent places to men of inferior talent. That opens tho secret of those secret meetings, Hharpors get these men where their specious arguments can* not be answered by reason—tiicy harp on tho oppressions of the rich mid tho miseries of tho poor, and presto! “you help us out!” See? These same patriots forgot or neg lect to tell the dear, poor oppressed people that no republic has ever iyed long infested with secret polit ical societies, Even the monarchies of Europe are In perpetual dread of them. No democratic republic oan live with them from the fact that a democracy is a government ruled by a majority of its citizens, and a ma- jorlty has not so far lieen known to require secrecy in its workings. But again, if these men are not ropiibli cans, why play into tho hands of that parly by a hopeless division of southern democrats? Will tho rad ical party givo them their demands? If they will tliey are now in power, and why not now? ’/’here is no in telligent third pnrlylto who behoves they can elect n president, ami if they will think one moment they are obliged to seu that tlie utmost they can hope to do is to divide congress and cleft a republican president. Al ready tho move is being made to elect bur presidential electors by dis tricts a* we do our representatives. But if they are republicans let them iimimsk, come out boldly and give a reason for the faith that is in them we want to share the spoils. Ifuokabee officiat ing, on Thursday of last work, Mr. Barber is a native of North Carolina and engaged in turpentine farming in Colquitt county as a mom- her of tho firm of Horne Jts Barber. He is quite a handsome and accom plished gentleman, possessing high and iiolile traits of ehnraolbr, and Miss Florence is to be congratulated upon her success in winning him ns a life companion. And she—tho ja ide of her family, the acknowledged hello of the com munity In which she lived; tho girl whose beauty and accomplishments have novor boon excelled, whoso hand and heart have been sought in marriage by many excellent young gentlemen—was the bride mid con* tral figure which attracted the atten tion of every eye that witnessed the marriage ceremony, No wonder Henry Barber's (sum was radiant with smiles tlie follow ing day, When I saw him at tho resi dence of Mr. and Mrs, 1), N.
