question of city scavenger and the
great necessity of keeping the city
clean, especially during tho summer

attorneys on leave and several wit
nesses without leave, who will he ar
rested and placed under bond, quite

term.

presentments, found all the hooks of

except two; all the public buildings
and pauper farm in good condition
with one exception. They also spoke
in praise of the county sohool com.

vice. Several recommendations were
made concerning payment of dues
by the comity for attorney’s foes. eto.

tho following facts, which uro very
damaging to the defendant:
Gordon Keliur, a young clerk in
the clothing store of Converse Broth
ers, iu Valdosta, showed that New
born had bought a suit of clothes
from him on January 14 and that ho
had offered a check for £100 In nay-
ment. The check was indorsed by
H. A. Johnston, whom Newhern sue
was his brother, and from whom he
said he Imd got the check in payment
for a house. Tlie check was shown
bv sworn statements to have been en
closed in a registered letter which
went from Feronift to Pearson, snd
it was also shown that Newborn was
formorlv assistant postmaster at Pear
son and that it is probable that he
bad a key to the poetofficc. When
tho robbery oocurred, the place wus
ftwnd In the morning just aa It was
left tho night before except that tho
tetters and the entire stock of slant
Were gone. This showed 'that the
building must have been entered,by
some one who had * key to the door.

ered on the occasion. The meeting
was conducted quietly and orderly.
The Nashville brass bund gave us
some good musk on the occasion, for

respondents of the Northwestern
Lumberman, published in Chicago.
As its name indicates, it is a class
journal devoted to the interests of
the great lumber industry.
In a letter, dated April If.Hi, M r.
Patillo furnishes his paper tin; fol
lowing paragraphs relative r.o the
mills in the immediate vicinity of
Tifton:
1. I* Murry lias moved his mill
from Sycamore three miles back in
the timber. He is prepared to cut
rift strips us well ss bill stuff. lie
hns line timber, a good mill mid is a
veteran manufacturer.
B. M. jliluer & Co.^ of l’nbv, Gu.,
hare a new and well equipped mill
of 15,000 feet capacity and make a
specialty of bill stuff. They arc good
mill men. i'be venerable father of
the senior member of this firm, now
past 82 years of ago, claim to have
built and operated the first steam
saw mill ever run in Georgia. It

ready for work with a new mill.
They make a specialty of bill stuff
and shingles, have good timber and
know how to make lumber.
Beckwith & Rogers, of Sparks,
have just completed a mill of 15,000
feet capacity. At present they cut
nothing but dimension stuff and
tmaids, but very soon ex jiect to put up
large saw und planing mills, fully
fitted out witli modern maohinerv.
They own about 30,000 ilcies if

standard gauge railroad, which Will
tie extended to Motiltrio 20 miles.
They have abundant oupitel, and les
