The “Man from Maine” lias gone Lack to Maine, there to remain. “Gideon's Hand” furnishes rather monotonous music. It is all hast. Many candidates arc called, hut few ore chosen. Mr. Harrison will be one of the many. Aren’t the Republicans afraid that so much White-law will lose them the black vote? | •JellrjjVWINEOFC/IROUl lot female diieues Harrison is a short man, but lie had the longest pole—and the presi dential persimmon is his. Hut words which make one smile iill over are just these four, wc may have Grover. As such it has had our good wishes and have sympathized with it in many of its demands and especi ally in its warfare upon monop olies; but we believe that the sober, thinking men of the order will agree with us when we say that the organ ization of the district alliance for political purposes in the second con gressional district has already proven to have been a groat, mistake. Tiie democratic party is the white man’s party in the south. This is especially true here in the second district, and is made so by circum stances which we cannot control and conditions that cannot lie removed, and it is not only unwise, but dan gerous to society and the best inter ests of our section, state and county for democrats to ally themselves with any party, order or movement that tends to create division in the demo cratic ranks or whose interests or do- •mauds are made primary to demo cratic rule.—Albany Herald. Wo now have four separate and distinct political parties in the sec ond congressional district—the dem ocratic, the republican, the alliance and the third or people’s party. ■FSe re are those who will stoutly deny that, the alliance is a political party unto and within itself, and will undertake to support such deni al with the claim that the alliance is doing its work inside, the Democratic party and running its candidate for congress subject to the democratic, nomination, but this claim will hold good only in those counties where the alliance machine has got control of the democratic party organization. And such proscription and intoler ant ! Wherever the alliance is in the majority none but alliancemen need apply. Such arrogant intoler ance Ittui never before been witnessed in our politics as has been exhibited by the alliance in such counties as Terrell, Randolph, Worth, Decatur and Thomas. Men who have been loyal democrats all their lives and '-har(f*grown gray in the faithful sor vice of the party in every conflict with the common enemy, are pro scribed and relegated to the rear un less they belong to the alliance and yield to its demands without regard for democratic creed, platform of principles or party usage. Men who are democrat* in princi pic and on purpose, naturally look upon an oafl-bound secret organiza tion that seeks to control the party of tbeir choice, with all its sacred mem ories that belong to the experience of the last thirty years in the south, with disfavor, and will not submit to having the creed and demands of tlifit party made secondary to those of such secret organization. Turn and twist as you may, the effect of the alliance organization in this congressional district will lie lo either control or destroy the demo cratic party. Many alliancemen arc la-ginning to Kalian this truly sciious state of affairs, and will not hesitate hen the iitno coin**, a* conic it in- hty will, to^njose botw-"i the A LETTER FROM GEORGIA. Very strenuous efforts have been made by bis people in Ireland to get him to enter into polities and take the lead ership made vacant by the dentil of his brother, but he prefers peaches to polities at present, and is deeply in terested in a scheme to place Georgia peaches on the Liverpool market be fore the season is over.- I.cader. -Fort Valley Hon W. The action of Worth county, some time ago, in endorsing all of the state house officers with the exception of Governor Northcn fans been theoc.es sion of much comment throughout Advantage* of Tifton Am an Advantage*, Tuton, Ga,, June i>, 1802. Editor Southern Tohunvnid : Submitting these few lines to your valuable columns I hope they will fall into the bands of some one who may be benefitted thereby. The ge ographies of out- boyhood days which taught that the only products of Southern Georgia wore cotton, cane and melons are liooks that would not pass muster in the sc.iontifio and agri cultural research of the present, day. North Carolina, the mother of tar, pitch and turpentine, of which, “in t’\e production of the same,” she first gained a foothold and world-wide reputation and through the progress iveness of her venerable sons the pro duction of turpentine soon found its way to border counties of Southern Georgia, and soon the daughter vied with tiie mother and to-day, while proudly owning her matprnity, feels equal pride in the fact that, she lias far outstipped the good mother In the production of this valuable commerce, and although the lovely- daughter, young and bashful, has not hitherto been active in claiming the praise and credit to which she is entitled, she will henceforth claim all that is hers under the good old maxim which gives “honor to whom honor is due.” Investigations have proven that Southern Georgia is not the forsaken unhabitable region of tho South, as have been supposed; on the other hand, demonstration reveals the fact —especially in the vicinity of Tifton - that there is no country better for agricultural purposes south -of the Blue Ridge range of mountains, “of which it is evident, that the, beautiful undulating hills surrounding the city of Tifton is the southern extremity baftne loosing identity in the Florida peninsular.” It is thoroughly dem onstrated that there is no section in the South where a diversilied crop can be so successfully and profitably- grown. The fruit culture is phenom enal ; such as grapes, pears, peaches, strawberries and pecans grow luxuri antly, mid it is a conceded fact that there is no section soiuh of Mason and Dixon’s line that offer greater inducement* to tobacco aspirant* than the viesnity of Tifton; the soil, alti tude, climate and temperature are all suitably adapted to the growth of both types of tobacco—cigar and chewing—of which both types can now tie soon successfully growing on the Snow farm at Tifton, which i.. now being lopped at eighteen to twenty-live leaves, and the curing will begin the 15th inst. Tliele is no community morn susceptible to good health and that, affords greater ad vantages or offer greater inducement* to those wishing to embark in agri cultural pursuits than tho vicinity of Tiftsn. Her Inrge acreage of forest lands now owned anil operated by turpentine mid saw mill men and be ing sold at nominal figures is “a chance of a life time” to those wish ing to invest in fertile soil, mid the time is not far hence when the buzz of the saw and tiie skinning of pine will lie a tiling of tiie past, and the wide expanse of beautiful hills now overshadowed by the mighty forest, will show forth the luxuries of life, among which the golden weed will predominate. K. K. Paschal, Hitpt. Snow Tobacco Farm. Kind 'Words, “Marcelbis,” a correspondent of. the Northwestern ' Lumberman, lias recently been saving in the col minis of that journal some very nice things of Tifton and vicinity and the new industries of this section that have sprung up within the past few years. In a recent number lie had the fol lowing to say of the fruit crop and the recent, nurserymen’s visit; “Recent rains have made crop prospects good, and our people are very hopeful. V> notables, fruits and radons arc ripe, and shipments north and east have begun. r Rhe pouch 1, II, SlracMM li Co. crop is said to In-finest in the history of the slate, and as there is much acreagevplniited and bearing, we ex pect quite a money yield from this crop. Upon the subject of fruits, the president and about. 50 members of the American Nurserymen’s Asso ciation visited Tifton last weuk, and were tiie guests of Messrs. Tift. They took a look at the tine fruit and to bacco farms in tills section, with which they wore highly pleased. Among those present 1 met. some old Michigan lumbermen, who had quit the laborious work of milling for that of farming.” It Stmiild lie In Kvurv House. .1. H.
