If The Situation in the Tenth. From almost every locality in tho tenth district the rejrorta are to the effect that Watson is daily losing ground, while Black is steadily gain ing strength. Various causes have played their part in bringing about this state of affairs. The threatening attitude of the republican leaders in regard to the.force bill; the corrupt prostitu tion of the public service in the in terest of the party in power; the tlie scheme to purchase tho, preside)! cy; tho complete collapse of the third party since Weaver’s tour through the south ; the demngogio utterances of Watson, and the grow ing conviction among intelligent peo ple that democratic success means the political, social and industrial sal- vatiun of tiie south nil have-much to do with the trend of publio senti ment. Then, the democrats in the tenth are organised under a better system titan they ever had before. Their campaign managers know just how each voter stands. They have count ed noses, and they are assured that tlie victory is theirs. They know where to reach thoir voters, and on the 8th of Noscmbcr if any of then) are missing of slow in coming to the polls tlie proper committees will sec that they have swift conveyances so that they can vote without loss of time. The principles and issues at stake, the splendid organization of the democracy and Mr. Black’s conspicu ous abilities and virtues make it safe to say that the tentli district is safe, and will poll a rousing dcinoratic majority. This is the judgment of men who have never been disappoint ed in their political predictions.- Constitution. Getting Hack to First Princi ples. The Macon county farmers’ alli ance is getting down to solid sense and returning to the first principles of the order. At their meeting held last woek in Montezuma, tlie following resolutions were offered and -passed without op position. We learn that Mr. John M. Walters, late candidate for tho legislature on tho third party ticket, made a speech favoring its adoption. ItcBolved, That tho secretary of Macon county alliance notify tlie stato officials through tlie official or gan of the alliance that from this date no political questions whatever shall ho discussed in tho meetings of this body’. Neither will any candi date or political platform he indorsed. The returns show that tho total vote cast by tlie third party in the legislative contest* was 05,000 and that the democratic vote was about 201,000. It is not possible to tell just how ninny republicans voted with the third party, but it is fair to presume that a considerable number did so as tiie republican vote was practically nothing. No matter whoro they conic from, tlm third party vote was larger than it should have been. We do not like the idea of that paity polling 05,000 votes in Georgia, whether they” aro whites or blacks. The democrats of the state must not sleep 1 over thoir reoent victory. I'hey must work with redoubled en ergy and take something off tho third party column in November. Let us sec to it that tile vote of that organi zation grows lino by degrees and bcnulifully less until it disappears entirely.—Atlanta Herald. buy I* Breaking. The secretary of state has consoli dated tlie vote for 182 comities in the state for members of tlie general as sembly. Five of the counties will not be counted until the legislature is convened. Tlie total vote in tlie 182 counties cast for menihers of tlie general assembly is 201,481 votes. Tho democratic majority in these counties is 07,668. The othor five will add about 8,000 more to the democratic majority, which will make the democratic majority for members of the general assembly upwards of 70,000. But the official majority of the governor and state house officers will rim up to over 76,000 majority. This will hot be counted until the legislature meets on the 20th instant. It is remarkable fact that the re publican party oilly poiied 8,082 votes in the legislative race. This is the smallest republican vote that wes ever voted in any state in the union in thirty years.
