bridge at that point has long been
needed and the people are all glad to

committee und the gentlemen named
will meet the commissioners in
Tifton promptly on the morning of
the 17th so as to facilitate the busi
ness to he transacted.

Mr. M. W. Gaskins has closed out
his mercantile business in Tifton for

gone to New York for the purpose

cording to custom of rotation, to
furnish the next slate senator front

Henderson. It is thought that Hon.
T. B. Young will also be in the race

o’clock, when Mr. Ed. Clark, of
Americas, and Miss Mary Cottle, of
Tv-Tv, were joined together in the

officiating clergyman. The marriage

Prof. C. M. Bonn- II has resigned
his position as associate principal of
Pine Grove academy, Lowndes
county, and will take another course
in the Florida Stale Normal School

of which Alapalm circuit is to pay,
$100; Sumner ciremit.$00; Irwinville
mission, $30; Worth mission, $30;
Sycamore circuit, £100; ('ordelc sta
tion $100. The amounts assessed
the remaining charges wen 1 not re
membered exactly by Dr. J. ('. (Sood-
man, win furnished this report.

and disposed of was the conference
assessment of $1,107 for the various
conference purposes—foreign and
domestic missions, church ex
tension, education, Dishop’s fund,etc.

Enigma, Feb., 8.—Mr. Marshall
Jackson has on hand now more than
200 bushels of a very fine variety of
yam potatoes, lie has plenty of corn
and meat to do him until the next
crop comes in, and hence he is inde
pendent,
Berri-n county lands are very pro
ductive, and specially adopted to the
growth of corn, oats, potatoes, sugar
cane, peas, vegetables and fruit—just
such crops us are needed in the coun
try. There is no danger of un over
production of home supplies, us the
more abundant the supplies, the
cheaper and better the |ieople live
and the more independent the coun
try becomes.
•Money,like music, hath its charms;
but there arc not many people here
abouts who are over-burdened with
its allurements.
Mr. E. V. Ball, who has been itt
Atlanta attending a course of medical
lectures, returned home last Satur
day. lie will return to Atlanta next
Month and take a spring cattrse.
Mr. Coliett Jones, of A'apaha, was
visiting in Enigma yesterday.

and the guest of Mrs. Dr. Hammond.
Mr. J. T. Austin is now a full-

to regulate ourselves as lo the irregu
larity of cash, the regular advance
in the price of meat and other pro
visions, and when we look around on
the nine little regulators, who are to
he supplied with these necessary
articles, we find ottself bewildered—
perplexed—uncomfortable. But, oh,
he who dances must pay for the
music!
I am glad to note the fact that
Tifton is to have a canning factory.
It is, I think, a move in the right
direction. I have been arguing for
a long time that such a business
would he of great benefit to this
section and would pay handsomely.

Passed to Ills Reward.
The sad news of the untimely death
of Mr. Janus I. Clements, at his
home in Macon, reached this city on
Monday afternoon. In reporting the
death the Telegraph says of him :
“Mr. J. I. Clements, claim adjus
tor for the East Teuitosseo railroad,
died at his home on Walnut street
yesterday afternoon ut l o’clock of
pneumonia.
“Mr. Clements contracted pneumo
nia uhout one week ago, and since
that time lias gradually grown worse
nut ill yesteidav the summons came.
He leaves a wife und live children.
“Mr. Clements was born ami
reared in Irwin county, and was
always regarded as an honorable,
upright uud intelligent citizen, and
those who knew him best esteemed
him most.
“About a year ago he cattle to Ma
con and accepted the position of
stock claim adjuster, which positiou
lie filled with such satisfaction to his
superior officers that one month ago
he was promoted to the position of
claim adjuster, and hud up to the
time of his recent sickness filled that
position with such ability thut he
would, no doubt, in a short time
haie been promoted to a still higher
position.”
The remains were brough from
Macon to Sycamore Tuesday morn
ing and buried with Musouic houors
Tuesday afternoon, 2 o’clock, in the
Clement's burial ground—six miles
norheast of Sycamore—where his
dead relatives for three or more gen
erations have been laid to test. There
was a huge concourse of relatives and
friends at the funeral. Quite a num
ber of his Tifton friends and Masonic
brethren—all who could possible do
sa—attended at the obsequies.
