Irwin H(i|icrtor Court.
Last Monday morning, at lb
o’clock, Irwin superior eourt was
called to order by Judge Joel I..
Sweat, of the Brunswick circuit, and
as soon as the court was oigauized he
commenced to call the criminal
docket with the view of trying three
felonies —two for arson and one for
murder—in which Judge Smith was
lighted lo tell the world, ill bis own
way, of tlu* county's progress and
pros|N*rity, as well as to speak nut in
defense of her people when they are
wantonly assailed—as they have been
several times within the past two or
three years. Hut last Monday we
were deprived of that great pleasure,
and hence we have to content ourself
with reproducing the report of an
other, the Thomusville Tinics-Fiiler-
prise:
“Two days spent at Moultrie this
week was a revelation. What a
transformation ! From a sleepy little
village it Ime bloomed into a bustling
busy town. New buildings, many of
them handsome structures, are going
up, and in every direction is seen evi
dences of thrift and prosperity. The
stillness of the surrounding forests
lias been broken by the shrill shriek
of tlie locomotive, and behold the
change! Streets are being'aid out
and graded, long row* of shade trees
are being planted, while the eumt
bouse square, surrounded with busi
ness bouses, is lighted lip with street
lamps. The glad notes of progress
and prosperity are heard, the music
of saw and hammer falls on the ear,
while the painter's blush is plied on
many new houses. The erstwhile
village with its few quaint aipl rude
structures lias disappeared and a
modern town lias appealed instead.
Thu town is laid out nil** mile square
ami buildings are dotting almost the
entire area. A handsome hotel will
soon be completed, u convenient dis
tance from the new dejiot. The lat
ter building is a large nml handsome
structure. A great amount of naval
stores is being shipped over the new
road. Mr. Charley Pideoek is doing
everything iu bis power to accommo
date Hade anil travel over bis road.
He lias worked 'Kinders for Colquitt
