NEWS ANI> VIEWS.
Tho weekly newspaper* of Georgia
aro an unit in the opinion that Sena
tor Gordon hIioiiM bo requested to
resign.
Tlie Wayeross Herald insists: “Let
tho people of Georgia rise up and de
mand Senator Gordon to band in bis
resignation or resume his position in
tho senate.” lie’s resumed, brother.
The Vienna Progress seems to be
on its mettle because the backward
spiing keeps the candidates from
blooming thick and early. JIow'ull
they know the editor's penchant for
fees.
The legal mill of Jacksonville, Fla.,
started to grind the principals in the
late lislie. mill in that city, but instead
gave them the freedom of the town,
and they and their claims look it in
on a howling drunk.
The Miami bill providing for tho
coinage of tho soniorago silver bullion
now in the treasury came to a vote
last Thursday and w:ih passed by the
House. The Georgia legislature vo
ted solid for the bill.
The difference between Hornblow-
er and I’ockbam and Justice While
is, the two former aro democrats for
ofllcu only—mugwumps in political
parlance and the latter is not. Does
the Sparta Ishmnelilo sec it clearly
now?
The Ga/.httk joins the Albany
Herald and pins its fortune to the
“material prosperity” kite. We find
moro pleasure in it than discussing
politics, the relative merits of candi
dates, etc., and there is decidedly
more money it.
President ('leveland announced at
the beginning of Ids administration,
or his newspaper devotees did for him,
that it would be conducted in Iho in
terest of business and business men
both located on Wall street. Then,
wdiy should anyone be surprised at
the President’s llnancial policy.
The Gazhtti: assures the Ifyo edi
tor of the Worth County Local that
it was neither feeling for his fifth rib
Pol* searching for a beam in his eye
in what it hail to say about our
do-nothing congress, and if ll lunched
him in a tender spot his most gra
cious pardon is hereby invoked. Life
is too short for I lie G.\/.icttk. editor
to undertake to fathom the mysteries
of the Hlietoric that proves “one” to
bo “one by one’’- to compass a Geog
raphy that guides you everywhere
by the way o| Hawaii—or to tack on
to a financial policy that comes to
thi' Amercian pootiiu by the way of
John Slicrinnn. 'I lie Gar.kith imglu
continue this enlightenment, but de
sists for tear of beeoniiiig iin weary as
the Aj/o Local.
The G ax.ictti: is looking forward to
a general change in state house ollleers
at the next eioulion. It is not pre
pared to pass upon the wisdom or
justice ol such conduct, lint all power
of the government is inherent in the
people and they can do as they
choose. One of the causes of this
expected upheaval glows out of the
construction of the late school law
providing for the quarterly payment
of toaehers. I’he people are firmly
impressed with the idea that it was
tho mind of the legislature, when the
law was passed, to have the first of
April next, while the Comptroller and
Treasurer have decided—the seholas
tic year beginning July 1st—that the
first quarterly payment is hence not
duo and payable until three mouths
thereafter. The late ncliool law iH
published this week for the infonna
tion of our readers.
