ALL SORTS OF THINGS

Beautify your premises and make
Tifton look attractive.
Tifton continues to move onward
and upward toward the goal of pros
perity.
Watermelons are plentiful but
they are high priced—too high for
an edittr's purse.
The Gazuttk is steadily growing
in popularity as a newspaper. If
yon want the news you should sub
scribe for it. Only $1 a year.
The Gazuttk Publishing House
is having a rush of general job print
ing just now, indicating that satisfac
tion is being given to all its patrons.
It is a violation of a city ordinance
to swing on and jump off moving
trains. It is a good law, but it is not
being enforced as rigidly as it should
lie.
This is absolutely an era of adver
tising, and the mercantile establish
ment that fails to utilize it as a means
to secure trade will surely get left
out in the cold.
The Tifton Canning and Manufac
turing Company will soon lie busily
engaged canning tomatoes. Large
quantities of peas and beans have
already been canned.
Thanks to Mr. W. S. Smith, of
near Tifton, for the first watermelon
of the season. We received it last
Saturday. Boney always does the
“square tiling” by the printers.
Grapes are ripening very rapidly
and growers will soon lie in 'lie
midst of. the shipping season. They
expect to realize a good price, as
they will be the first in the market.
Would it not be well for the street
committee to put a good force of
hands to work, cleaning the bushes
and weeds from the streets by .Inly
10th. Citizens should also put their
premises in good shape.
A meeting of citizens interested in
school matters is called at the Insti
tute building for to-night. Ono of
the objects of the meeting is to elect
a new Board of Trustees—the term
of the old Board having expired.
Pincy-Woods Lodge, No. 60,
Knights of Pythias, of 'Tifton, will
give a supper ami public installation
of officers on Tuesday night, July
Kith. The proceeds will be devoted
to the purchase of furniture for their
hall.
Kev. L. A. Snow, of the Tift &
Snow Co., was in the city several
days last, week, lie left for Ins home
at Commissioner Saturday morning
thoroughly enthused on the subject
of the “Empire Garden Mid-Summer
Fair,” to he held at 'Tifton, July 10th
and lllh.
Lot the democrats of 'Tifton keep
cool to-morrow and vote according
to the dictates of their own con
science. There is absolutely nothing
connected with the races for gover
nor, senator or representative about
which any voter should get irate or
say ugly things.
Prof. E. .1. Williams, Jr., with a
party of friends, will take their de
parture in a few days for Hampton
springs, Taylor county, Florida,
where they will spend a week or two
for recreation—fishing :jnd hunting.
They will return by way of the Oko-
linokee swamp. The Gazuttk wishes
them a pleas,int time.

Trent incut of Pear Blight.
'Tlie treatment of pear blight is
calomel. Cut across the tree about
four inches, split the bark vertically
about the same number of inches and
raise it on each side carefully with
out breaking it. Take about 15 or
•JO grains of calomel and place if tin
der the lifted bark, close the hark
hack and put a bandage of eloth fold
ed three or four times around the
body of the tree so as to protect the
opening and medicine from the air
fowl light. The tree will take up the
. f u.-C j 1
calomel in its circulation and the
blight will disappear.
The old theory that blight is caus
ed by an insect hatched from an egg,
deposited in branches, is not correct.
It, is produced by a diseased sap,and
the calomel will correct that abnormal
condition. The best time to give the
trees treatment is in the spring, when
the leaves are about half grownjhow-
ever, the calomel may be used with
good effect as late as August. The
important thing is to give them, the
trees, enough. Where there are two
or three largo prongs starting near
the ground give the treatment to each
one. 15 or .20 grains may not he
enough. 'The amount I am sure is
about as much as you would take up
on an inch and a half of an ordinary
pocket knife blade. Put tile calomel
on either side, about the quantity in
dicated.—John II. Scruggs, ot Daw
son, Ga., in the Blaeksliear Times.
