Enigma Echoes.
Enioma, June 27 —I will try to com-
ply with Bro. Bohemian’s request;
“It’s koqU to lie jovial ami civil,
Hut it’s hard to do labor in vain;
It’* good to got" plenty of auininine,
And, it’s nine to have plenty of rain.
We have had some delightful showers
of rain at Enigma during the past few
days for which we feel profoundly thank
ful. These showers have come rather
late for the corn crop, but it, the corn
crop, will he greatly benefitted, and other
crops are not materially damaged. 'I he
prospects of this section are more hope
ful now.
Prof. I). L. Bledsoe was here last Holi
day. He informed me that his class in
vocal music at Flat (‘reek numbered
forty nine pupils. Prof. Bledsoe is a
hustler us well as a line teacher.
Misses Mattie Uhodes and Kllle Hour*
any, of Brookllehl, attended church servi
ces here last Hunday.
Miss Emma Perkins, of Homer, Banks
county, Ha., is ut Enigma now teaching
tilUfric. She has a nice class. She is an
excellent Instructor in both Instrumental
music and voice culture. Miss Einina is
of a sweet, amiable disposition and Is
very much admired by those who have
formed acquaintance with her, both for
gentleness and her musical talent. The
divine art, music, see.ms to he on a boom
in il.ii section of country at present.
Tills Is us It should he. There U nothing
nicer nor more inspiring than soft sued
music.

There are some people who seem to
have lorn from their hooks the words,
modesty, courtesy and gratitude. One
wise limn said, “Watch your friends,
your enemies will not injurv you.”
My young friend Henry llayet* seems
to he taking n thomngh coiiimi* of anti
matrimonial lectures. I think. Henry is

IH.AU Hill 1 wish to say through
your valuable columns that there m more
expected of me Hum I can do in that line
in the way of elections and I lake this
method of Informing them of the same.
Ill IHH'J I did all in my power for the
Democratic parly and cnngrntnlntc my
self for there living no more Peoples’
parly voters In my district than there
were. I hare not regretted my action
yet, am a stauncher Demons! today
than I was then from the fact that I am
hotter informed, l Itelieved then, an did
many others, that the Democratic party
wus the true source of relief ami I worked
hard for its success. But the lenders of
the party have disregarded the platform
of principles upon which they were elect
ed, turned a deaf ear to the cry of the <»|
pressed and other things too tedious t<
mention, which have caused despondence
In my hope of prosperity being restored
to tho masses of the nation.
I told the hoys that through true Deni
on racy was our only hope and for us to
stick together and give that party a lease
of power and then, if they failed to give
relief, we would try something else nui
that I have any objections to Democracy
in its original form, but this modern form
has soured on me so much so that 1 can
not commit myself in the primaries t<
vote for iny fi lends from the fact w hen
commit myself in the primaries of tin
Democratic party 1 endorse the presen
administration and it seems to me that
the past eighteen months, in full author!
ty, would convince any man who ha
posted himself that modern Democrar
is a failure. I think it is lime for all who
favor good government Id seriously con
aider the momentum* conditions that con
front, them regardless of party and try to
find some purity
Now, I have no ax to grind in pursuing
this course. 1 have all the grind-stone
want ami anymore would act as an cm
bargo on mo. I write thin simply tlint
my friends, w hom I cannot see, may not
expect my support in the primaries
Many have sunt ine word and others huv
written me tliat they expect thus and
from me. Hence tills article will giv
my position In which I ant honest in my
convictions upon this principle as 1 eve
was In anything—perfectly convinced
and converted. John D. Cai.iiocn.
