The newspaper proprietor labors ai
a disadvantage in the time of money
stringency as compared with the man
ufacturer. The latter can shutdown
his mill, hut the newspaper publisher
never finds a time when he can shut
down his plant and lay of his employ
es, until he has to do so for good.
The newspaper must turn out regu
larly and the expenses continue right
ott just the same in dull times ns
when the business is booming. Any
retrenchment of the reading matter
will immediately bring a protest from
tlie subscribers, yet many of these
subscribers fail to think of paying
their bills.—Ex.
