A brief visit to Tifton last week
yielded me unlooked-for pleasure. I
found the conductor of the Tifton

rolled up, hard at work, and a smile

The good citizens ought to send them
to school to Jud;re A. It. Smith,
This intolerant spirit, in religion and
politics is growing too fast for a free
people. J'eoplc who exercise it
should remember that this is a free
country; and that to worship Hod in
his own way, is one of the dearest
rights of man; and to speak and vote
as lie please is the rock-bottom plank
of Democracy, and when denied,
withholds the rights of men who may
lie better than wc are, as to polities.
True, men ought not to incite others
to treason or rebellion; hut the man
who is unwilling to allow others to
speak, vote and think for themselves
is a traitor to Democracy, which
guarantees freedom in polities and
religion. Boiik.mian.

descended on ('ceil Saturday. The
leading feature of the day, was a
iiiceling of the Benevolent. Associa
tion and a dinner. The exercises
were well attended, and the best of
older prevailed. The county line
base ball team had rliulli'iignl, and
the (Veil team had accepted a mulch

(Veil scored |U; ( oanly I,ino Is, a
complete victory for (Veil. The best
of order also prevailed among Ihe
players. The hand consisted of a
bass and kittle drum, lad it seemed
as if cadi piece made music enough

Of all the joys this side of Heaven,
It is to he appreciated, when your
lime and talent has been used for
your friends. Such has been my lot
of late. Messrs. Frank Binokin^
('. W. FuIwihhI and D. lb Newton,
have given me valuable mementos
valued the more as they are tokens
of true friendship. May the (led
whom wo mutually adore reward
them seven fold. To Mrs. O. L. Bass
however, I am more deeply indebt
ed. A splendid family hilile is the
gift of Hint highly oullund lady a
gift, than which she could not have
selected one more appreciated.
Much of the stuff I have written
for the press has been devoted to the
fair sex, Withdrawn, as true women
are, from the bitter turmoil of public
life, they are very angels to lead us
into a better, happier, holler life.
Like the gentle dewdrops, they come
mid go, and refresh us, and we are
better and happier. And the Bible
tells us all our friend could say, and
ill silence. If we praise tied for Ills
goodness, there is none to movk us;
if we tilled repentant tears, there is
none to soolT it us; weeauread lli.n

There was a splendid joke perpe

a great litany passengers the conduc

enjoying the fresh air, until the train
was slowing up for Cecil. It, was
nearing the depot when the conduc
tor appeared and demanded tickets,
lie had, taken all Imt two and was
making change when lie espied one
sitting en the platform, stooping he
gave the fellows hat a tug and de
manded his fare, at which he feigned
sleep, the conductor then seized Ins
hat, this was Uui much for the sleep
ing fellow and jumping up he asked
wlmt was wanted, 'flic conductor
again demanded his fare. Cmpli!
said the fellow, yon are very aeeom

hul you make him pay for getting off
the train, ii you hud waited a mo

tho trouble of waking me up, No
trouble .it all sir, if you had waited a
moment longer I would have saved
you the trouble of enrrying your lint.
By this tune the passengers had all
planted their feet on tera-llrma and
the train was carrying some other
