A Good Idea. \
In a brief interview with a gcntle-
mun recently, he suggested the idea
that it would pay farmers of South
west Georgia handsomely to engage
in u more extensive culture of sngai
cane and slop the same in rar loads
to the Western cities.
During u Bojnrr. of ten or twelve
years in the eitieB of Louisville, Ky.,
and Nashville, Tenn., I do not re
member having seen a singlo stalk of
sugar cane on sale.
1 fully agree with the gentleman
alluded that it would prove a paying
venture to make shipments of the
product in question to onr Western
friends and let them realize for them
selves the luxury of what the po“t
inut huve meant where he speaks of
“lengthened, sweetness long drawn
out.”
Why, just the novelty of such a
product, in tmujy^of the western mar
kets would.gfre it ready and remu-
nerativs sale. .
It is a matter of some surprise that
such a venture has not been tried
long ago.
Our farmers, during the iucoming
new year, will do well to direot more
attention to a diversified cultivation
outside of 4f awW-cent eoVtou. -That
they will adopt woh methods admits b
of but little doubt when they reflect
upon the bitter experiences through
which they have passed, , .
It is to be hoped, that such a ecu
will be generally adopted »s a wall
