The following tWiO puragraps arc
from the pen of “II.,” the Tifton cor-
respondent, of the Albany Herald:
“Tho eyes of fruit growers in tho
Northern and Middle states have been
turned lo this section as a fruit and
truck growing country, ami every
week brings its quota of visitors from
those states. They find tho climate
all they could wish, the soil fertile
and especially adapted to their pur
poses, and tho chances for marketing
fruits and truck live weeks earlier than
California, As a consequence, few of
them leave nillmet purchasing land,
and wo have several colonies of them
in and anuiid Tifton, The largest of
these is at Little Pennsylvania, five
miles north of town. They are enter
prising, energetic, economical, and tho
very best elntSs of citizens. And some
of them can draw their cheek for a
million! Altogether, near 10,00(1
acres will be growing fruit and truck
tributary lo this place (lining the
present year.
“Why is it tiiat our prettiest and
must enterprising towns are usually so
unsightly around the railroad depots?
A stranger seeing our town from the
Brunswick nml Western dejpot would
form a very poor estimate of it. As
it is there that the Pullman cars are
changed from and to the Georgia
Southern during the day, this view is
about all that somo of the Northern
touirsts see of us. Surrounding the
dilapidated rattle-trap of a hull tlut
the Brunswick and Western calls a
depot, are a lot nt old buildings, relics
of the early ’70’s, that are of no
earthly use except for kindling-wood,
md are tit companions to the misera
ble makeshift of a depot. IIovv much
injury these old buildings have al

Greek Farmers.
There arc two Greek farmers in
Houston county, and they will oper
ate a two-horse truck farm.
They are nt work on the Wool folk
West place, between Big Indian and
Limestone creeks, on the Perry and
Ilnynoville road, within half a mile of
tho Georgia Southern mid Florida
railroad. These Greeks came here
from Atlanta, where they have a
brother in the fruit and vegetable
business. The entire product of their
farm wiU be shipped direct to this
brother, who will place it on the mar
ket as his judgment dictates,
They will cultivate watermelons,
canteloupos,potatoes ami sevcrrl kinds
of marketable vegetables.
They are energetic men, and seem
to know their business thoroughly.
It is generally believed that they will
make money. They have prepaid
to augment their supply of manure
liberally with muck and leaf-mould
hauled from the swamp and woods.
The work of these men will he
closely noted, and it may ho that
their operations this year will mark a
new departure in Houston county
farming.— Perry Home Journal.
