with the pretty peaches and lovely

euue to the old Union road, beyond

The Negro who was fatally injured
by a Brunswick and Western raihoad
train at Riverside somedavs since,

Gazette at the time, died Tuesday
morning and was buried at the ex
pense of the county.

is now moving northward from Tif
ton. Wagon loads of the luscious
fruit are coming in every day from
the farms to be packed and forward
ed. Shipping season is a very busy

The city of Tifton and the mana-
ment of the Midsummer Fair will
extend a formal invitation to the
Weekly Press Association, to spend
one day at Tifton on their return
from Brunswick by the sea. The
boys will miss the greatest treat of
the season should they fail -to accept.
N. F. Tift, of Albany, is selling a
new -MOWER, the blade cutting di
rectly in front of the wheels. It has
no side draft, and runs much lighter

Editor W. A. Allen, of the Worth
County Local, was in the city Satur
day afternoon. He is lending his
best efforts to the press committee of
the Empire Garden Mid-Summer
Fair in the effort to secure the at
tendance, in a body of the Georgia
Weekly Press Association upon the
fair in July.
The streets and side walks have
been put in excellent condition ex
cept the weeds in some of the streets.
The city should continue the good
work until every street presents tin
attractive appearance. A town full
of weeds and a farm full of weeds
stand upon the same footing; both in
dicate a laok of energy and thrift.
From the sales of furniture and
general house keeping artie'es in
Tifton recently we think it will only
be a short, time before we can announce
some weddings. From onr present
information there will be at least
three within the next thirty days.
This is one of the signs of the times

prosperity.

Mr. Jonathan VVulker brought to
the Gazette office Monday morning
some specimen limbs of Axexaudcr
peaches that wire really remarkable
for this, the “Home of the peach.”
On one limb fourteen inches long
were nineteen |>erfect and well de
veloped peaches and on another
eighteen inches in length were thirty
two well formed peaches some of the
largest of which measured six and a
quarter inches in circumference, they
grew in clusters like grapes.
Mr. J. B. Greene, Jr., and Miss
Mamie Hartnooi both of Tifton, were
nuited in marriage last Sunday morn
ing,9 o'clock,at the residence ofElder
W.J. Baker,who performed the inter

ed out the proceedings of both the
white and colored teacher’s institutes
being held here.' However, a com
plete report will be published next
week. Teachers and others desiring
copies of the paper containing the
proceedings should leave their names
and postoffice addresses at this office.
Prof. W. J. Sullivan, of Morgan,
Calhoun county, was a visitor at the
Institute and, after listening to tlie
work, gives it his hearty endorsement.
Capt. Wakeford, of Lenox, looked
in upon the Touchers’ Institute the
first of the week, and was highly
.’ratified at the work being accom
plished.
Notwithstanding the large attend
ance of teachers in the city this
week, comfoitable homes were found
for all, nearly every private house
being opened to them.
The lecture by Prof. Pollock on
the subject “The German Empire”
was listened to by an entelligent and
appreciative audience and wa3 very
entertaining and instructive.
One of the most interesting feat
ures of the Institute were the reoitu-
tiliis by Prof.JLyhilh lie is certainly
a muster of his art uml never fails to
interest bis audience. Teats, langn-
ter, silence, applause ull come at his
will.
II011. S. D. Bradwell, ex-stale
school commissioner and now Presi
dent of the state Normal school at the
old Rock college, near Athens,was in
attendance upon the Teachers’ In-
8titUto last Tuesday. He delivered an
eloquent and profitable address at 11
a. m.
Colquitt comity sent (he shortest
list of teachers to the combined In
stitute. Lowndes was not far ahead
of .her in this respect. However,
those who attended enjoyed a season
of mental refreshing that fn'ly re
paid them for tlieir expenditure of
time uml attention.

Judge J. M. Griggs distinguished
himself before the Teacher’s Institute
and a large audience of citizens at
Tifton Tuesday evening in his iulin
itahle lecture, “The New Woman.”
He paid a glowing tribute to the wo
man of America and to the old South
and charmed his hearers for an hour
with one of his happiest efforts. The
lectuiff was well received and has
been the subject of much favorable
comment.
