Mr. A. A. McUrame, of Ocala,
Fla., was iu Tiftou yesterday on Ins
way to Albany to visit Ihb brother.
He has been in <the county several
days, visiting relatives.
W. 0. Tift is agent for the famous
Tiftou a couple of days receutly, in
the interest of the Old Soldier’s Col
ony, to be located in Irwin county
soon. They expressed themselves as
delighted with this country, and
very much surprised to find the ther
mometer ranging u’ong in the 80’s

The young Tiftonians will give an
entertainment to-night at the resi
dence of Mrs. W. T. Ilurgrett, at 8

streets and are bringing good prices.
We presume none of them are large
or luscious enough for the editor’s
palate, as none have yet found their

The many friends of Mr. and Mrs.
E. R. Mathews, of Albany, will re
gret to learn of the death of their
infant daughter at the residence of

Mr, Byrd Belote, formerly of the
Hotel Steivurt, of Valdostu, bus
moved to Tifton and will reopen the
Suwanee Restaurant for the present.

Contractor, S. G. Slack, is open
ing up a large stock of hard-ware,
tin-ware and builders’ supplies, in
the Julian building. This will fill
a long-felt want in Tifton, and we
bespeuk for him a liberal patronuge.
The first tomatoes grown in this
section and pluced on the Tifton mar
ket were from the truck farm of J.
S. LaSliu & Sou, last week. It was
un even race with him and Mr. J. B.

Prof. E. T, Whitfield, who taught
school over in Worth, near Whit
tington postoffice early in the year,
baa secured a school at Gam Pond,

Mary’s, Fla., was in Tifton a few
days receutly, attending the Institute
aud visiting friends. He is u gen

Hou. John A. Sibley, of the Ryuls
Orchard Company, paid ub a cull and
a subscription Monday. He reports
fine progress in the planting of
their immense orchard. 100 aores of
which are now planted in good shape,
and two hundred additional acres to
be set this fail.

Great improvement is to be mude

ces. Mr. J. L. Pittman has the con
tract, and has a good force of hands
now at work, grading and putting it

Capt. H. H. Tift Ims been in at
tendance at the Fruit Growers’ Con
vention in Atlanta this week, and
was given place on several of the
most prominent committees. The
convention was most emphatic in its
demands for cheaper ami hotter
freight rates, and to secure this end
expressed its determination to make
war on the rate committee of the
Southern Railway ur.d Steamship
Association, if necessary.

The meeting of the ltoyul Arch
Chapter here last Friday was attend
ed by quite u number of prominent
masons from other sections. Grand
High Priest Charles Wessolowsky,
of Albany, and Grand Secretary
Woilihin, of Macon, were present and
assisted in the exercises and work of
the Chapter. Mr. Wessolowsky is
very eloquent and able speaker and
it is very probable that he will be in
vited to deliver a public address here

The Mid-Summer Fair is soon to
be held there, during same, the re
sources of this energetic town and
the surrounding country will be well
shown up. Everybody should go.

Prof. J. II. liayhill, one of the ex
perts who gave such eminent satis
faction ut the Touchers’ Institute, Ims

the past week, ami will give an exhi
bition, assisted by his pupils, ut the
Institute to-night, consisting of mu
sic, poses piastiques, club-swingings
and recitations. Prof. Rityhill lias
made the subject of elocutiou the
study of a life-time, and has no peer
in bis line of work. He lias given
general satisfaction here, and inode
many friends during ids stay.
Our Trade Edition.
The first enlarged edition of the
Gazette will appear on Thursday,
July 11th. It will bean eight-page
5-eolumu paper, uml all home print.

sue as a trade editiou, giving a gen
eral review of the progress of town
aud country around it for the post
five years. Five thousand copies will
be distributed to visitors at the Mid
summer Fair. This will be tbe op

Mattie Rhodes. The interesting cere
mony was performed by Rev. W. F.
Mixon, of Tifton, in a most impress
ive manner.
The wedding feast was an elegant
affair and the decorations were pro

Hon. Thos. B. Young, of Irwin,
whose hand was badly cut with a
saw two weeks since, has been having
a severe time witli it, and for awhile
it was feared lie would lose his arm.
