The first car of melons was loaded
at Cecil lust week. Growers say they
are going to load only ripe fruit
this year. They have heretofore
sold many that were noL ready for
the market, and it has been one of
of the causes for the failure to get
fair prices. Most of the crop will
be sold on tho track. Farm crops were
never in Doer condition, nor the
prospects for an abundant yield bet
ter. This is especially true of corn
and rice.—Sav. News.
The Georgia teachers have been

Rather a sensation occurred late Sat

Mr. J. W. Goldsmith and Mr. John

valuable assistance. The men, w ho

The curse of the melon grower hns
been the shipping of immature fruit
This has heretofore been done to se
cure fancy prices at the opening of
the market. It lias killed the goose
that would have laid many golden
eggs, if she hud been intelligently
handled. There will nlwnys be a
good market, and a “glut” when
worthless goods stock the market. In
nothing is this more true than in
fruits, honey, eyrnp, &c. Why a man
should toil six months to raise a syr
up crop, and then pluce his cane juice
on the market as trashy, smutty
sweetened water is beyond compre
hension; and just so it is with mel
ons. It seems as though many plan
ters grudge the bumblebee’s pleasure
of sucking the blossoms. They are
clipped, loaded on ill ventilated cars
and started to market when the hot
air actually wilts the rinds. Better
methods will make better markets,
and the acreage und profits will both
increase.—Cecil Cor. Valdosta Times.
