THE TIFTON FAIR.
A Mnlinllul and <1 rawing Industry of
Worth County.
It was only last week that I had
the exquisite pleasure of spending a
half day amid the shrubbery and
vfne-clad domain of Piney Park Nur
sery, at Poultin, Worth county. My
companion on this pleasurable occa
sion was Capt. C. F. King, of the St.
Louis (Mo.) Republic. We were
shown through the premises by Dr.
J. F. Wilson, general manager of the
. Keystone Fruit Company’s great en
terprise of which my subject is only
a small part, assisted by his able and
trusted lieutena'nt, Mr, Tom Kitch
ens.
We were first carried through the
company’s vast vineyards and per
mitted to feast upon the luscious
grapes, so rich and abundant. From
thence we were taken to the plum
' orchard, about six years old and com
posed principally of the Wild Goose,
Marianna and Ivelser varieties. We
were invited to help ourselves and
found them not only pretty to the
vision but pleasant to the taste.
Then wc were shown the nursery.

ouglilv satisfying himself that the
conditions of' soil and climate were
exactly such as lie desired for success
ful fruit growing. Besides being a
thorough physician and surgeon Dr. j
Wilson is also a practical fruit grower ;
having engaged in that business for a
number of years in Ohio, previous
t,o his coming south.
Two years ago he succeeded in
interesting several wealthy gentle
men of Pittsburg, Pa., and Chicago,
111., in organizing the Keystone Fruit
Company—Piney Park Nursery and
Moselle Vineyard, the pioneer vine
yard of this section established by
Capt. J. G. MoPhatil, forming the
basis of their operations. They now
have several hundred acres set to the
best varieties of grapes, peaches,
plums, apples and pears.
.. One of the specialties of the nursery
is the rooting of rose cuttings for sale
to Northern and Western dealers. It
is a fact, which Dr. Wilson has dom-
strated, this is a profitable industry.
1 It is very little trouble to propagate
ropes, and the cuttings grow to so
much greater proportions than in Nor
thern and Western nurseries, being
, more than double in the same length
of time. It is with the rose cuttings
as the other products of Piney Park
Nursery, the supply is not near equal
to the demand, though they put 'out
thousands ercry year. j
After making a tour of the vine- p
yards, orchard and nursery, we were
invited to partake a fine watermelon,
1 the best we have tasted this season.
