ounty for the present year show a
lling off of $40,529. This is prin

A negro man from Brooks county j
brought in the finest lot of peaches
seen here this season. He sold them
to Mr. Shields and stated that with
five trees he had managed to payroll
a six hundred dollar mortgage on his
place in five years. He did it by

large orchard and is making a good
living off of it. We did not learn

| Parties in Tifton Tuesday report
that a fourteen-yeur-old negro boy
attempted tojeommit a nameless crime
upon the little five-year-old daughter
of Clerk J. B. D. Paulk, of Irwin-
ville. He was discovered by the
child’s mother, who knocked him
down with a piece of timber and sent
for assistance. The negro was
promptly lodged in jail, after being
severely whipped by the first parties
who reached the scene, and it was
only by the most strenuous efforts on
the part of the older heads that a
lynching was averted.
